My grandfather has a 2001 freightliner with the isx 500 with 650,000 miles. We just replaced the turbo because there was oil in the outlet and thru the intercooler tubes. It has a lot of blow by. To put into example it is just a solid stream and makes a cloud around the truck. We are wondering what has happened to the truck because most of it has happened all of a sudden like the oil in the turbo outlet. Hope somebody can help. Thanks
2001 isx problems???

seal damage is usually caused with bearing play ore turbine disballance. Before it happens turbine is lowder then usually.
But 650k it is a long life for turbine! change and do not worry for next half million miles -
What about a very leaky fuel injector?

sorry forgot to say that this was after the turbo was changed and before the turbo was changed.

If it was a 2001, wouldn't it be an N-14? I thought the ISX didn't come out 'till 2003 or so. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't run a Cummins. Would it make any difference if it was an ISX or an N-14?

ISX came out in 2000. I never blew out the turbo on any truck I have been around in 30 years. Put 1.4 million on a '96 N-14 and it still had original turbo when I crawled out of it. My current ISX has around 627,000 on it and turbo still doing just fine. Now, watch me have to eat my words since I brought it up!!

seems to me old engines were better...
