Hi guys, at work I drive a 2004 freightliner columbia single axle daycab with a 12.7 detroit egr (grrrrr) motor. The problem I am having is that it is LOUD inside. It is worst accelerating between 12 and 15 hundred rpm. A bad resonating type sound, not a exhaust leak I think. Barring a broken or worn out motor or tranny mount what could it be? I have driven detoits before and I know they are louder than others but this one is terrible. My ears hurt at the end of the day!!! I have seen a sound deadning material called boom mat silver in color and sticky on one side. Would that applied to the firewall and bottom of the cab make a difference? Now I regret begging the boss to buy it. I like the truck, it's just noisy. Any advice would be appreciated.

Daycabs seem to be loud for some reason. Even the new trucks. For some reason, the 2008 + Detroit with DPF are loud as hell in the Columbia's. I can't believe how loud it is, where is the insulation Freightliner?

The same place where it is on several North American models.................still in the warehouse.
I had a friend give back a Mack with big sleeper and ask for a EU COE just because off the noise inside the cab.98989 Thanks this. -
I have an 04 Columbia and I used Fat Daddy Insulation to block out sound and heat. It definately works well with heat but sound not so well. I think its about 80$ for about 20ft of material.

I own a very quiet Columbia, it was ordered with all the sound abating insulation available. Conversely, I've ridden in other Columbias that were Ryder spec. talk about a night and day difference!
I would order or make a carpet kit, doubling the floor insulation and wear ear plugs. Adding sound deadining to the firewall might help as well.
