That's too bad it was the ECM. From my experience the ECM's are very well made and we try everything we can to exclude them from the cause of the problem since they are so reliable. 99% of the time it is a wire problem. But, they do go bad. With ISX ECMs, the motherboard is actually folded in half and then sealed with a durable rubber silicone to form the outer housing. The silicone does dry out and will allow water in if you power wash the engine anywhere near the ECM. We have replaced a few ISX ECM and those customer wash the engine often.
