i have a 2007 Peterbilt 379 with a C-15 Cat. I bought the truck last November. About three weeks ago, I went out to start the truck and got everything but no start. Relays were coming on, plenty of power but nothing when I clicked the key to start. I tapped on the starter and it fired up. I took it to Kenworth in KCMO to have a new starter put on it. They were the only ones to get me in. The put a new Remey starter on and I headed out. 5 days later in Texas I shut the truck of to fuel and check fluids and it did the same thing, only this time tapping the starter did nothing. Service truck pulled me out from under the trailer and we roll bumped the truck. Took it back to KC and the went through, they say everything and put another starter on. A week later and I am in Cleveland and it has done it again. Can anyone give me anything as to why all the sudden I am going through starters.

Have you tried to jump the solenoid? With the workmanship of everything these days you can get a new bad starter.

I have my doubts it was the starter that caused the original problem as it has now done it with 2 replacement starters as well. I'd be doing some digging with a multimeter to see if you're getting power down to the starter solenoid on the ignition power wire. If no, your problem is somewhere between the key switch and the starter solenoid (including starter relays and whatever else is wired into the circuit).

Starter relay is located on the driver side firewall.

Might even be the key switch, that's what multimeters are for.I don't know why but a lot of mechanics either can't grasp or are scared to death of electricity.Me,I always start with the batteries.
