I'm having issues with my cruise control. I replaced both micro switches on clutch and brake pedal and have them adjusted properly and also clutch return spring. I have also replaced the signal arm/cc as well. My cruise will kick off for no reason. I will run across flat road bumpy or smooth all day long with no problem. But every so often, when pulling any sort of grade when the motor torques up and the boost kicks in, the cruise will kick off. I'll hit the resume on the cruise and it will work fine for a while. Sometimes the rest of the day with no issues. But sometimes it'll kick out at any scent or smell of a hill. I'm kinda stuck to what else it could be. I really don't want to go to the stealership and spend money to fix it just to hop back in it and run down the road for it to happen again. I can never get it to cut out when I need to show someone. Its never a regular....its intermittent.. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I suggest to you have a look at the transmission output shaft to feel any loose up-down or/and output shaft tone wheel (16 teeth) loose on the shaft, both should be tight.

I saw this problem a couple of times when the engine is pulling it generate more pulsating in the drive line and if your tone wheel or output shaft are loose a little bit the ECM see an erratic output shaft speed and cut the cruise control even though you cannot see it with the speedometer.
    Hope this can help.

If it is that?....does it mean the tranny has to come out and be repaired? Or can that be fixed generally easy? Thanks again

I also picked up a new speed sensor today. Haven't put it in yet though.....thought maybe it might help being new. My truck seems to like new stuff...presents I like to call them. Lol

My recommandation is: If the transmission output shaft or VSS tone wheel is loose, with 1 inch drive impact and a 2 3/4 socket put a timing mark on the output shaft nut and also on the output shaft itself, try to tight the nut with the impact wrench, if the output shaft loose disappear look at the timing mark to figure out how large was the loose, turn the yoke by hand left to right (5-10 degree) to feel output shaft bearing pre-load ( there suppose no pre-load but no loose) if everything come tight with no loose and no pre-load remove the output shaft nut and install a new one with couple drop of red Loctite.
If the loose didn't disappear you will have to remove the yoke to make sure it not seize in rust (spline) the yoke have to move freely on the output shaft to be able to push on the output shaft bearing and close the gap.
Let me know what you will be find ?

I got under there last night and had a good look at it. It all felt tight. I couldn't get any movement sideways or up and down. Just rotational movement. I assume it's tight. Thanks again for the detailed instruction and your time explaining it all. Any more ideas? I hope its not a wire in the dash....they are all the same color. Lol. But...it only cut out once on my last two trips of 3000 miles. I still don't trust it though. Lol. I still haven't put the new speed sensor in yet. Thanks again

I had a similar problem also in which the Cruise Control would turn off for no reason when engaged, which also started affecting the Jake Brakes.

I traced the problem to a worn Accelerator Pedal and Sensor. I replaced both and the problem never returned.

    blr300 Thanks this.
