    Hey guys,
Wanted to inquire a little more about the N13 SCR engines, in particular, the 430hp on the 2015 Prostar. From what i read, the 2015 engines on the 2016 Prostar has overall better design in terms of EGR cooler and what not. However, since the truck i'm considering is the 2015 Prostar(one with 400k miles), which is before that latest design, I am wondering if I could get 150k more out of it, if i'm nice to it. Now, the only reason i'm even considering it, aside from the low cost of ownership, is the 12 month (100K mile) Factory Warranty it comes with. By being nice to it, i mean:
    1. No idling (would need APU for that.) When the truck is stationary, it must run hotter without the flow of air you get while cruising on the highway. And also, it seems idling might be rough on DPF?
    2. Monitoring engine temp on hills and heavy loads and driving accordingly to keep it on the low side.
    3. More regular service and maintenance
    4. In other words, driving it like the sensitive truck it is as opposed to riding it hard like it was one of those old school 500+ hp engines you could push to the edge.
Now, i must have read 100's of posts with all kinds of horror stories, but its difficult to get any value out of such stories without the proper data around the situation: what year truck with what engine(hp rating)? how many miles on engine? how was it being driven? (i.e. cruising speed 62 or 72 MPH?) did driver idle? regular maintenance? average weight pulled? terrain?(i.e. flat or hilly?) etc...
Anyone with experience with the N13 SCR engines on the 2015 Prostar (430hp) who could provide some real data(positive and negative) would really be appreciated! You could save me and others from making a potentially disastrous decision and possibly help us make one that may improve our lives and the lives of our families. Thanks yall!

    Best to all,

    Muthatrucka Jonez : )

Yep, check for leaks, but EGR coolers are the likely problem.

I did a quick google search. Watched their youtube install video. Looks ok. The flex style tubing looks more like what Cummins uses in their coolers which do last longer. I don't believe there is such a thing as an egr cooler that will never fail though. Never tried one of these.

what state do you work at an international dealership for? i’m from Southern California and apparently we have to buy only DPF and DOC’s straight from the dealer
