2010 ISX liner issue?

    Yeah I have that engine. have 209k and just got it out of the shop. had to replace pistons, rings and liners. I guess I did not break it in good when it was new. My fuel mileage was below average and was using 1 gallon engine oil every 1900 miles.

    We have seen/done a few liner repairs here, problem is the liner fretts where it sits on the block then drops causing compression in the coolant, most have been around the 200k mark, repair with counter bore cutting and shims, Cummins makes you do a course befor warrenty will cover repair. New liners come with a brass shim from factory that fix this issue, all replacement liners now come this way, newer engines come with these liners from factory (forget where eng. s/n production starts)
    Reason instructor said this is happening is that the engine was orginally designed to run with out SCR, so with full EGR would have lower combustion pressures, but going SCR the pressures are increased causing more strain on these componets, and the fact that early engines were cut for 16 litre then scaled back to 15L didn't help, this was fixed with new block released in july 2012.
