I just read the maintenance schedule straight from Cummins, 102-002 owners manual for an ISX 870 4960314. Believe it or not, but they say top end sets are due at 500,000 miles, 10,000 hrs or 5 years!

    EZ Money Thanks this.

Man! That sucks but thanks Heavyd!
I talked to another Cummins tech today on the phone who said the first thing he would check is the EGR cooler.

It has been doing the regen more than usual the last few weeks and using coolant.
I had the DPF baked out about 3 months ago.

EGR coolers can go anytime, but really common at about 700,000+km. Actually about at 99% failure rate. It is nothing for us to change 3 or 4 a week!!! Cooler failures under 300,000 are rare. Do you have any engine warranty left? Cummins did release a TRP (temporary repair practice, T1235) a little while ago about internal coolant loss. They have a super sealer you can add to the coolant for minor internal leaks. Basically like a rad stop-leak chemical. They say to use two bottles of Cummins part# 529858600. This is temporary, and may not stop 100% of the leak, but may buy you more time.

Thanks Heavyd,I will mention that to the shop.
One of our other trucks had one go out at 200k.

It also looks like the cap on the coolant tank has been leaking so i will grab one of those next week at a dealer.
I did find some drips on the coolant filter.I checked the hoses a tightened them up above the filter and that slowed it down.
Maybe a new filter, cap and let the shop look it over when i get time.

Well,it was break down week.....she went belly up in Georgia in the middle of a 2 lane country road.
Engine warn light then shut down light,no throttle response. What a night!
They sent Road Pros or something like that out and he plugged into it to find about 10 different codes.
2 EGR and EGR controller codes,3 turbo codes and a critical low fuel pressure code along with a list longer than i felt like writing down at 2 am after being awake for 30 some hours.
He cleared the codes, changed fuel filters.
The engine was running rough and coughing smoke from behind the turbo off and on.
I got to the big road and hammered 200 miles to the local shop while coughing and losing power off and on.
Engine warn light then went off....WTF!

Anyway it is in the shop and i hope they figure it out.
At least i got a rental car and got home....Looks like a few days off.

About time to talk to Paccar...looking at a new KW T660.
Or thinking of buying my own truck.

I miss my old W-900 and my old Classic XL...both never left me stranded over the years.
These new plastic throw away trucks! Geeze!

Sounds a little like what Working Class Patriot is(was) going through with his Pete. Maybe more than a little.
