I drive a Peterbilt 386. Was going to install my better c.b. in the truck, so I checked the swr's. The factory antenna system blows. The swr's were a "3". You would think that if you spent $100,000 on a truck, that it would have at least a great antenna setup. These truck manufacturers are a joke! I decided to run my own coax, use my own mount, and my Wilson 2000. I have mounted the antenna on the back of the cab, and ran my ground to the frame. I will check monday, if the swr's came down (they were a 2.5 without the ground wire.
I am also thinking about running my power wires to the batteries. I believe that the factory posts inside the truck, does not have a sufficient enough ground. I am getting horn, light, wiper, and turnsignal feedback through my c.b. speaker. It has to be a pathetic ground, to have all the accessories feed-back.
Has anyone on here had the same problem with these trucks? If so, what did you do to get rid of the problem?
Thanks![]()

Buy some 1" braided ground straps and get busy. These new trucks have too much non metal stuff in them, plus the cabs are all setting on air bags. I know that on the Freightliners all the electronics have both a gnd and a hot wire run to them. Used to be when you mounted something in the dash or where ever, it would ground, now all the electronics have gnd wires run to them as well as a hot wire.......(this is what the shop manager of our 250 truck fleet told me......I don't do nothing but drive them anymore so I have to take his word for it.......apparently these trucks don't even have a good electrical ground!!)
