Hey guys right of the bat, If you want to skip to the question I will divide it between how I ended up with this truck and my issue that I hope some of you can answer.
So i took the route of an owner op. And I purchased a 2013 volvo 780 D13. I kinda took a risk it because it was priced good, had very low miles/hours for its year, at 420k miles for only $35,000. The truck had absolutely brand new Michelin tires and new alco wheels all around. New shock absorbers and t arms. Ran perfectly fine, no engine codes, good engine idle, pulled good for a 425hp, so no syptoms. So after I made a purchase 2 months down the road I noticed the oil slightly rising, so I asked around and people recommended an oil analysis. When I sent it out it came back with 14% fuel in oil that I just recently changed. I sent out the old oil as well and it had 28% fuel in oil. I took it to a shop and here is what they said
---------------------------------------
I have 1 bad fuel injector, #2 and it is putting fuel in the oil. Now with further inspection they noted I will need to replace my camshaft and rockers because the oil/fuel chewed it up. Ive done several engine rebuilds in car engi e and my personal opinion tells me my cam is not as bad as he is saying. My question is, how many of you guys ran on a cam that was chewed up but truck ran and pulled good. I would like to run on this cam until I save up some money, they quoted me $12k for parts and labor. I will still do the fuel injectors which is like a $4,600 repair but to clarify the question are there guys out there that ran on a chewed up cam and had either issues or success?![]()

What future damage will that cam cause

Same thing happened to me, injector #2, caps leaking, cam damaged, rockers damaged. Ended up replacing all at once. All the injectors, caps,& cam. $14k with some change. Injectors needed to be done, so what the heck, do the cam as well, why open it twice? Labour is costly. Btw,truck was strong before as well as after

well i have two question, first is that if it is only one injector leaking then there is no need to replace all of them specially if the truck is driving fine, your cam looks pretty worn and i dont think you have much time until it goes out all together but 12K seems quiet extensive to me. if the truck is running good then do an oil change and hit the gas but the problem is if that cam does go out its going to go out on a hard pull and then depends on where u are you are going to pay an arm and a leg just for the cam this is something you have to think about as well.

$14k i quoted was in Canadian dollars

I really appreciate you guys tuning in, and helping me decide. I think you guys are right, its really not worth running this damaged cam and rockers. The route im going is actually to find a good condition cam and rocker set and run it until i can save up money for new parts. I just found a deal on all the rockers: Dealer price was $4900 for all rockers, i picked up a used set in good condition for $250. If i can find a cam for under 1k used this rebuild will cost me $6200 instead of $12,000. Thats new fuel injectors/cups, good used cam and rockers with labor
For guys that run into the same issue as i did, look into used, its not the best option but when you have absolutely no funds, there are a ton of good D13 engines from rolled over volvos. AGAIN THANKS
