Did you figure out what the problem was? I’m having the same symptoms.

Mine does this sometimes. I just back off the engine brake and it goes away. Any word on a fix?

2015 780 830k miles having the same problem. What is happening Volvo calls the VEB or Vovlo exhaust brakes. The nuts apparently back off and need to be re-torqued using red loctite. This is typically not done during a valve adjustment, why? Who the hell knows since you are right there with everything open. The other fix is Volvo made a new design (since it is a common problem) Warrantied if you are below 500k miles. If not, the new parts are around 4k and probably another 1k labor roughly. I opted for the red loctite which is not a permanent fix but I can get those adjusted many times before I hit the price tag to replace. I know this is older thread, but hopefully will help is someone else comes along with the issue.

Since I posted above a year or two ago I learned the same stuff you did. If they forget the loctite you will be vibrating on 3 within a month or two of an overhead. That's the exact problem I've got now and it needs to go back to them and get fixed properly.

I've had 3 overheads done on my truck, about one per year. 2 out of 3 times the loctite trick kept my jake happy for about a year. In other words, nothing lasts forever but you need an overhead about every year anyway.

Update on above: Overhead was $450 and they worked the VEB adjustment in at $155. It did help however there still is a vibration so I have a few other things to check. Now, not sure if anyone has had to buy valve cover gaskets...apparently Volvo came up with the smart idea to use two, ok no big deal except they cost $300 each. Really Volvo!?! Feel like I took it in the ##* ridiculous!

yeah @86scotty there is some debate if they used red loctite. Doesn't say so on the invoice, and there is no charge for the loctite. So I asked the service writer if they did and he said, "they should have" I say "well, I agree they should have, however should have doesn't cut it in this business, do you know for sure"? He says, "yes because that is the procedure"! I left it at that but I am going to call the service manager because I have never come across a Dealer that doesn't charge for everything!
