Update:
Into 3.5 years of having this 2012 Cascadia now. Since after it threw the EEC 61 codes, the dealerships kept picking at it, and eventually ended up changing most of the DEF system components. The truck was around 530k at this point. Figured it was a good opportunity to get new filters too. Another 8 months in, and it needed an inframe; around 575k. Luckily it had extended warranty coverage 6yr/600k.
As others have mentioned, try to use not any more than 5% bio-diesel, and keep your DEF up. Not sure how to really tell, but someone also said to use trustable fuel stops where there is less risk of contamination. (Not sure if there's really a way to know though.)PE_T Thanks this. -
how can I do a forced regen
-
With the truck running, in neutral, and parking brake set; press and hold the regen button. It should cause it to start a regen. You will notice the RPMs start to rise.
Do not put the truck into gear, press the clutch, or disengage your brake as it will end the regen.
Also, try to do it when the temperature is decent, or the truck is at normal running temp. -
On a Detroit you can only do a Regen when the yellow Regen request light is on. Otherwise a forced regen requires a laptop with the right software.
mhyn Thanks this. -
If you're getting codes 4364 18, 4364 01 - NOx conversion Low, NOx conversion very Low and 3364 02 - DEF quality replace both your inlet and outlet NOx sensors. There's nothing wrong with your DEF. Hundreds of thousands of trucks buy DEF from the pumps daily. If the DEF was bad at the pumps there would be thousands of trucks at repair shops daily for bad DEF.
Would also be wise to clean your DEF metering unit, it can crystalize. There's 2 small filter screens and an orifice. Just clean with hot water. There's a few videos on you tube how to...Until it falls apart, uncleal13 and mhyn Thank this. -

I have had this same issue.
EEC 61 SPN 4364 fault 18 fail 1
I have taken it to the shop several Freightliners. They replaced my ACM (After Treatment Control Module), replaced Def Metering Unit, replaced Line heater, flushed the Doser unit, tested for Def Quality, disconnected all the communication systems and reconnected them. It’s been in the shop 6 times and spent thousands and my truck still isn’t fixed. -
live with it. not a big problem.
