2014 Freightliner Cascadia DD15 Automatic
It's been at my driver's house in Missouri for awhile, since we were looking for a new carrier to lease on to. She went to move it and it decided not to reverse, and then not to go forward either. She says the drive tire right behind the drivers seat is locked up too. Here are the error messages:
Clutch system problem detected, harsh shifts likely.
HVAC2 (1)
Trans (1)
Transmission air low (we've had this one on and off for a long time, no one can find a leak or a reason for it, have been to the dealer twice and another shop once.)
Diagnostic code SPN 520970 FMI 7
Diagnostic code SPN 523318 FMI 6
HVAC2 (1)
Trans (0)
Does anyone know what the problem is likely to be? Is the transmission toast?? I found this TSB notice also..
TSB Number:
802-15
NHTSA Number:
10140774
TSB Date:
August 2, 2015
Date Added to File:
June 11, 2018
Failing Component:
Power Train
Summary:
802-15 spn 520970 fmi 7 (tcm)
Anyone know of a decent shop in the Kansas City area? A decent tow company??
Thanks!!!

I don't even pretend to know all about those codes. But...if it has been parked for awhile, and mayby brakes were wet when was parked. The brake shoes could be just stuck to the brake drums. Build air, chock and block wheels. Realease brakes and rap on brake drums with a hammer. They should ring, if a dull thud, its usually the bottom shoe thats stuck. Give it some well placed raps to break it lose. It does not have to be freezing outside for this brake shoe sticking thing to occur. Not saying this is whats happened, but worth a check out.Sisbro Thanks this.

May also add, only the brakes with a spring brake( or maxi) would be stuck. The brakes without cant be the ones stuck. Some trucks have 2, and some 4 maxies.Sisbro Thanks this.

Thanks! I had it towed to the dealer and found that there is a problem with the transmission. They don't know exactly what because they couldn't complete the diagnostics with the computer. I have someone who wants to buy it. I'll lose a lot of money on it but without having even a ball park of what it will be to fix (they have to drop the tranny to find the problem, and that alone would be $2,514.00) I don't think I can afford to keep it - too many miles.stillwurkin Thanks this.

'towed to the dealer', be carefully there. I wouldn't use a dealer for anything. If I could help it.
Took mine to dealer just to get diagnostic test only. They said the same thing, drop trans. I replaced the top trans wire harass, basic off the test and what Eaton said.. now all is good. -
Well, I am clueless about this stuff, set up the business for my brother than he went off to do something else. It probably would not have occurred to me to find out what Eaton says (SMH!) And if I did, I still don't know how to find a good mechanic in KC who I could trust to just do the NEEDED thing. I'm female and hate to say it, but we get taken advantage of still...especially with heavy duty trucks!! And with a female driver to boot.

Please post what model transmission you have. If you don't know, call and ask dealer or remove (4) screws that hold glove compartment in place and read the build sheet on backside. Transmission model would be in upper right hand corner of sticker. Ex: RT016910BDM3

Where air line enters your transmission, openen it there is a small filter clean it and you are good to go

Mine was that dirty wouldn't let air go through to shift. Look at imagesAttached Files:

Wow! This really fixed the problem? I’m going to try. I got stuck in the middle of the road this morning. I also have the OTR reset tool which may have helped but I was able to shift back into gear after 20 minutes.
