My guess is somebody in your shop saw threads get stripped out by one of those cheap perch mounts and assumes they'll all do that.

I drove through freezing fog in Minnesota a few days ago with my 7' Firestik. It was whipping back and forth a lot, but it didn't touch the truck.
A predator 10-K-27 is not going to touch the truck, ever, period.darthanubis, slim6596 and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
Does the shop agree with the GTM? They are the ones I would think would have caused this decision. Course they probably blame it on the GTM. Probably what will happen is we'll all have to take them off. I think there ate some in safety that would like to ban CBs altogether anyway.
-
It was apparently someone in the shop who reported it to the GTM and supposedly the director of fleet maintenance.
-
Well the antenna didn't strip the threads. Somebody screwed it in and cross threaded it. I slip seat and remove mine every time I drive. Course I support my antenna off the top of the mirror which keeps it from flopping around.
-
If it was the single post mount, and a real big antenna (like a monkey made or a predator) was on it, as mentioned above, the result of driving into a sharp gust of wind at speed would be a tightening down motion with an insane amount of leverage, it very well could have stripped out that way. The two post one like we use doesn't have that problem.mike5511 Thanks this.

Somebody just doesn't like the looks of them I'm guessing. I'm waiting for this to become fleet wide. He might get his GTM or whoever to back off, but usually when/if you use the "the other guys are doing it" plea, it goes the other way.
-
Which is why he needs to forego that plea and explain it technically.
-
Which I did this morning. We'll see.

Drove across i64 this morning, from mt vernon to st louis, in wet freezing snow and my predator 10k/27 inch shaft was covered in ice and never did it come in contact with any part of the truck, and the wind was blowing about 20 to 30 mph.
