Danged it man. You gotta get some contract freight or SOMETHING otherwise you'll be answering the question at the grocery store checkout: "Will that be debit or credt'? "Neither. EBT please."

I'm considering NOT replacing Darla's Bambi Basher. I don't know, though. Just kicking around the idea a little. I like the protection and of the other brands - I like the Rig-Guard brand. It did it's job very well. I like the cleaner look and I'm wondering about improved aero for MPG. I got to move my 5th wheel a little closer w/o adding weight to the steers that I had to run it all the way back to get before. I dunno. Just pondering things. Plus there is the cost. Yeah, I'll eventually get it back suing the guy that hit me. We are filing a claim against his insurance. He wasn't ticketed so they will deny. They will file a claim against our insurance. Since I wasn't ticketed, we'll deny. His insurance will fix his truck - minus his deductible. Our insurance will fix Darla (all she needs is the RG), less my deductible which is $1K. I don't have the $1K built up yet. Only $750. So they'd just take the $750 and keep on $25/week until the remaining $250 for the initial $1K was satisfied and then it would start over at $25/ wk til I got back to $1K. BUT the replacement wouldn't come out of my escrow under an R/O. As far as getting my money back, I'd have to sue him in FTW Small Claims Court and win (which I think I would) and then he'd turn in that Judgment and his insurance would, by Law, have to pay it even though they denied the claim. That's the way "he said/she said; both insurance companies denying the other's claims and just paying on their own insured," are done. Not just at JCT but everywhere. OR, I can just leave Darla as she is, then pursue the claim, then when they pay, get her RG put back on / the insurance check from suing him and not be out all that money from my performance escrow that I'd have to build back up.

Like I said, I dunno. JCT is cool w/ however I want to do it.

If you click "preview post" TTR will save a copy of your progress. Then if you lose it, just scroll down to the quick reply box and click "restore auto-saved content:"

Actually had a decent offer today, but just don't feel like hitting the road yet. Nice to know rates are recovering though.

PS: I vote no bambi basher just from a mpg standpoint. Maybe not if you run a lot of 2-lane at night

Thanks DY! Had to peck around to find "Preview Post", but I clicked on Go Advanced and there it is. I really appreciate it. I'm kinda bad about not upgrading my technology until forced by circumstance to do so. Darla is a great example of that. Technology in fuel efficiency just got too strong to let sticking within my comfort zone and reluctance to spend money on new stuff remain the status quo for that. Which is odd. I jump on a new high tech Truck Tractor to the tune of $158K before I finally got drug (kicking and screaming the whole way) to Verizon to upgrade my phone and plan to something at least in THIS millennium for $150.00?

Just broke down and ditched the old phone for a new-ish (S4) Galaxy and a real plan. My laptop is next on the agenda . . . when I have to. It's an older HP ProBook running Windows 7 and Office 2003. I need to upgrade Office first. Maybe. The problem I run into is that technology moves so fast. It's not that my learning curve is all that shallow (I make it out be a lot less steep than it really is), but my cheapskate curve is REAL steep. If it still works - most of the time; why spend all that money to replace it? Plus - we know each other. LOL. Problem w/ that is, now I've got older hard and software that works great with . . . older software. I think this HP would melt if I tried to install MS Office 365 or start running like a 3 legged dog if I tried MS Office 2013. Good luck trying to buy 2007 or 2010 even. Not in a big truck. LOL. Gimme a day in a car or bobtail, in a descent size city, and I could. Don't trust the "free download" sites that have come up thus far in searching for older MS Office Suites - even to buy. They smell phishy. Don't know how else to put that. LOL. Anyway, this preview thing will be a great stop-gap til I have to get a Heavy Recovery Unit to pry some coin out my bank for a "real" laptop and "current software". SHEEZE!

Now, WHAT does all THIS have to do with Darling Darla? This is where it gets funny. Hey, if we can't laugh at ourselves? We are taking the whole world WAY too seriously!! OK?

SHE IS TECHNO-SAVVY, FRIENDLY and ahem, "meep", actually pretty danged cool with all the new jizz-giz-schniz-mo tech stuff. She has a radio (I guess that's like calling her tranny an "automatic") that has inputs and integration for a TON of things. BUT THEY HAVE TO BE NEW TECHNOLOGY TOO. But, Some of it DOES integrate - or trigger or WHATEVAH! with the older stuff, like Henrietta (the old HP). I'm talking to my best friend on the phone. He works for Super Service as a drver and a trainer. The RIGHT kind of trainer. One that . . . trains and takes that responsibility VERY seriously. Refuses to Team train; follows a personally adapted training outline with learning outcomes and performance benchmarks and gives up a GREAT deal of time to practice. He be my Old School Older Brother from another Mother. We talk - ON THE PHONE, all the time. Only thing he does online is borrow Lowe's free high speed WiFi to stream Netflix on break.

You guys think I'm a techno-lag? How 'bout not setting up the voice mail on the phone til six months after he gets it, BUT, has a dash cam, sidesaddle Bluetooth, SXM Radio, and an Apple brand tablet, TV and whatever it is that lets you pick up Local TV if you are in a big city, and DVD player. Phone? Nah. Anyway, he's teasing me about my music; or lack thereof to be more accurate. He used to run reefer and a lot of out west, but this gig has him rarely crossing west of the Mighty Mississippi and then not terribly far. Kansas City maybe, but it wasn't but a few short winters ago HE was doing what I am. So we are talking about this and that (got that part about him being my Reefer mentor - I'm a turncoat flatbedder gone reefer; he cut his OTR teeth in reefer) and "search" on my radio has YET to pick up ANYTHING in English other than elevator music, and he teases me about not getting with the satellite radio thing.

"I don't wanna buy a bunch of stuff to plug in and run antennae wire and stuff. This thing is Aero-slick, poppin' great MPG, I pay for fuel and I don't wanna mess w/ her lines tacking on a bunch of antennas".

"Dude! It's built IN to your truck! Your antennas are all integrated. Like your CB, and your FM? Satellite is too. You ain't gotta buy nothing. That's what that dog symbol on the radio is. That ain't the RCA logo. It's Sirius Satellite Radio."

"Yeah but you gotta pay for subscription, right?"

"Yeah, but you get . . . (goes on about all you get - he loves his)."

"I dunno, Man. Payin' for radio? That kinda rubs me wrong."

"OH, this from the guy that re-washes 45 cent aluminum foil insert pans for the Lunchbox oven till you can see through the bottom, THEN uses the next 45 cent aluminum foil pan! Take THAT money you're savin' and use it for something useful. Tunes in the desert! Plus, you get a 30 Day Free Trial."

"Oh, did you say FREE? I like free. Free is for ME!"

"Yeah! Take all that online stuff you do (he bought his system from a t/s - SS doesn't spec their trucks w/ real nice radios - OK, but not O/O spec) and go to their website. Follow the instructions. It's a brand new truck, so it's a brand new radio. You get a free 30 day trial. You just gotta enter the radio ID number. It's simple. GO FOR IT."

"OK, I will." (not really intending to - just if it crossed my mind web browsing).

"Trust me Dude, you'll LOVE it!"

So, when I go down for my 10, I decide to check it out. I had I-Heart Radio on my new phone as an App, but was told, by my daughter - who DEFINTELY would know -, that eats into my "data plan", "real bad - cause it is streaming" and I like using my phone to connect to the internet so; "use it (I-Heart) sparingly". With this new phone I also broke down and went Blue tooth. I tried all the Blue Parrots and such, for fit and function and just didn't like them. It was only one ear so that sounded weird (I hear outta two ears) and $79.00???!!! But, the Verizon place had a Motorola one which fit both ears but didn't impair my ability to hear outside sound . . . and it was only $39.00.

Loving BT, the only draw back is short battery life. Maybe that's what the $39.00 was all about and I am NOT that driver to wear it (I think it's called "standby") when I'm not actually on a phone call and I AM that driver that won't talk on the phone around other people. I just think that's rude. One conversation at a time, sooo, No Problemo. I don't talk and drive much anyway so I charge it and leave it off. I get a call, I hit speaker and, (again - joking about oneself is healthy) . . .

"HANG ON. I GOTTA PUT MY TEETH IN SO I CAN TALK!" (one in each ear - get it? TEETH? too funny!) Then; "HANG ON, POWERING UP!", as I turn it on and it connects. "Bluup!" "HI are we on? Can you hear me? I think it connected. Looks like it did. Test, test. We live? Hi. Gimme a test count so I can adjust the volume. THERE. Perfect. Hi, this is Stan. Hold on" [pokes phone to make it go black screen - don't like a bunch of screens when I'm drivin']. "OK. We good. Bluestuff good and . . . outta sight. What's up? Nice to hear from you . . . " Then I TOTALLY diggety-dog on being able to talk to my peeps that way. No wires. It's Rad. Ahem.

So, I'm talkin' to my wife on my long down (a reset), on my BT, and surfin' and; yeah - this Dog Star thing looks cool. OOOHHH, 90 day free trial and I don't have to enter any credit card info?? COOL. Let's give it a shot! OK, get the radio ID by pressing this . . . got it . . . enter it here . . . got it . . . enter contact info on a web page but no credit card info here . . . cool, if it's a scam we have a dog and he bites, so we good there . . . OK, next page. . . .

CLICK ON "SEND ACTVATION SIGNAL" TO ACTIVATE YOUR FREE TRIAL AND THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING . . .

Really? That easy? Something's off. But maybe. I'm gonna click on this and it'll be a virus. Maybe not. Neal said it's really cool radio. You know how much you dig radio.

    F' It. CLIIIIIIIICCCCCKKKK . . . .

Terrible pause. In everything. Laptop, phone (which apparently connects EVERYTHING when you do a "Hot Spot" thing); everything. $#!+ I knnew this was a mistake. Then a message on Henrietta from the website.: "Thank you for choosing Sirius Radio. Your activation may take up to fifteen minutes to activate your Sirius . . .

YOOU!! SHOOK MEE AAAALL NIGHT LOOOONG!! Where do you want to navigate? If you need help just say; HI Galaxy. Its a sweet 52 degrees here in Big Spring as the Lady Buffs take on the She Eagles at the Joe Chorno Eastside NAPA Auto Parts (you're hometown parts store on Fifth and Main) Gym. . . .

All blaring simultaneously through Darla's radio - which is a good one. I know this cause the windows were vibrating as I momentarily (OK, OK - not so momentarily) paused in awe, and the Landstar driver next to me snatched his curtains open, shook his head with an irritated smile and snatched them closed: Darla's rattled windows rattled, the Swift driver on the right shot me a bird (to which I just smiled - this Schnizzle really works?! and for FREE ! !! )

DOUBLE TIME ON THE SEDUCTION LINE . . .

    SHE'S ONE OF A KIND . . . . JUST MINE . . . ALL MINE . .

OK, Babycake. Lets slide right into home. Used to call it Flatbedder's Row. Don't wanna bother these fine folk. (still smiling - I can't BELIEVE this $#!+ works,).

I guess I did Prance her a bit. Pride. Darla is sharp, looked sharp, had a sharp lookin' wagon and . . .

    SHOOOOKK ME AAALLL NIIIIGHT LOOOONGG!!

Yeah, we had to go to bed. Early Delivery.

But we had fun til Nighty-Night-Time!!

    PS.

    Satellite Radio ROCKS!!

Might wanna be mindful of your neighbor, though. Otherwise you'll wind up like Darla and I. Ostracized to Flatbedder's Row. Turns out . . .

Back row ain't such a bad place to be.

    I remember now . . .

Yeah, it does. I've had the all-music subscription for years. I don't need - or like - talk when I'm driving, so it works well for me. And back row? It's where I head straightaway. It makes me walk more and it's much less busy. But there have been times when the back row seems to be in the next time zone at some of the larger places. Finding the way to the buildings can be challenging.
