Well... I didn't ask but, that "mechanic" diagnosed that so I would have demanded refund. A multimeter would have told him if there was power to the solenoid when the key was turned to crank or not, not means probably not the starter? He has a spare now anyway. We all get caught in these things, learn and move on. I spent $2200 at a dealer in Knoxville few months ago and they gave up. I later (with help from a mechanic friend at home) found the boost sensor connector was dirty, cleaned it and it's been fine since..... need to trust our guts more and "mechanics and dealers" less.

Mines been OK. Few small hiccups, one cost me a lot and it was simple... trust your gut not a dealer or a mechanic you don't know.

I had my starter replaced about a month or so ago. I knew dang well it was the starter, my local wrench told me it was the starter, but I still paid them an $125 to load test the starter before I dropped $700 on the new one.

    It was the starter.

My huge GRIEF with a shop is lets not guess. I was / am a commercial electrician. I never went and started throwing things at problems hoping for the best. I fixed problems.

I have 0 issue paying the money to get the truck fixed, provided it's just that, fixed.

Something like this situation though, that's why people snap.

Red wire was shorted. Looks like the loom material wore thru it where it was zip tied? Only thing I can think of explains all the ridges? FB_IMG_1529427346019.jpg FB_IMG_1529427346019.jpg

Nope, he's right. The plastic wire loom wore through the insulation. I see it all the time. I buy the cloth electrical tape from Volvo. It's $35/roll, but it prevents that from happening again. Wrap all harnesses in the cloth tape and put the loom back on.

Nope. It leaves the solenoid and dips down then heads up over the Trans. I think he said it joins another loom. Anyway, at the dip where it turns it's inside plastic loom and zip tied right there is where this came from. The ridges on the plastic loom wore into it.

So Volvo should change the way they secure that wire.
