Hey folks, I'll preface by saying I'm very new to the world of datalink and I'm learning as I go.
I've stumbled into a new problem where the truck will not turn over with code spn 2000 fmi 9 "ECM Data Link Comm. Failure".
I've isolated the issue somewhat to being at the OEM side of the 14 pin crossover connector. The weird part is that the resistance is jump drastically. Shooting up from 150 to 230 and up and down very quickly. I undid the loom where all of the wires split away from the OEM plug at the ECM. After doing so the resistance continues to jump but at values below the 60 ohm mark.
So I was assuming I had a rubbed wire, and maybe still do, until even after getting the values to go down substantially it continues to jump. Before I go tearing the entire harness down and breaking my back I wanted to ask others with more knowledge if this sounds like anything in particular or if I just have to buck up and chase wires.
Below is a list of the active codes from DLB.
Thanks all!

Make sure key is off.
datalink resistance will be a very erratic measurement when communications are actually occurring.High Stepper Thanks this. -
Key is very much off. Ground cables from batteries are undone as well. That was my thought, could there be communication happening at the time of taking measurements but there's no power anywhere!

Only if the device communicating is receiving direct power not thru the key switch.
Look for third party devices that are improperly wired to direct power.
Otherwise you have excessive resistance or bad connection somewhere in the circuit.Last edited: Oct 20, 2026
