    Hello guys,
My truck is showing different codes each day. These codes come and go along with the engine check light. The fuel gauge is also going up and down. It looks like my truck has a ground wire. I will try tracing back from the fuel sender unit.Any tips on how to find the wire that is grounding. Also if someone can provide wiring schematic diagram for 2016 Peterbilt 579 with Paccar motor.

Easiest way to find out what is grounding is to pull each fuse and touch a current sensor to the slots. If you have power goimg through without a fuse then just backtrack that. As for a wireong diagram good luck. The one for my 2017 579 is a....suggestion at best. Half the #### wires arent attached where they should be due to being spliced so many times.

On the firewall where all those electrical harnesses are....follow the wires down and they should be tied up to a piece that sticks out from the frame. Cut them loose, unwrap the bundles, and start looking for wires that have rubbed thru. Just had to do this last week on my 2017 579 and found 8 separate wires in various stages of no longer being in one piece.

Also, when you tie the bundles back up you can wrap a CAC boot around the bundle to keep them from rubbing on the metal piece they’re tied to.

Thanks for the tips guys. I have found one of the wire connector which was connecting the wire to one of the terminal in the battery box was half broken. When i pulled a little it came into my hand (completely broken). I was still able to start my truck when it was completely disconnected. I feel it was a ground terminal. I installed new connector to the wire connected it to the terminal. I going to watch my truck for two or three days and see if it fixed the issue. What do you guys think?

If that wasn’t your problem then start looking at places like this where they have stuff bundled together from the factory. Cut them loose and start unwrapping everything and checking for where wires have rubbed together.

Thank you very much for your advise brother. Sometimes I see a code blink in the truck diagnostic panel which say the fuel sensor is open and then code goes away. I looks like the fuel sensor connection is opening and closing. So I will try to start tracing from the fuel sensor back to main harness and start unwrapping there and look for rubbed wires.
