I bought a 2016 prostar last year. I’ve been having an issue with my abs, traction control lights flickering intermittently on and off and my speedometer loosing power at the same time when travelling down the road. The instrument cluster screen says abs module when this happens.
I just found out this truck has axle load sensing with text message read out for rear axle weight.
I pulled the in cab controller codes with DLB and came up with an active SPN 1727 FMI 4 with 64 counts. Fault on Analog input 1 below normal when used for axle load) last time I checked before a 3 hour trip it had 41 counts. So obviously I have an issue.
probable cause - voltage below normal, or shorted to low source.
Module - instrument cluster.
has anyone ever had this type of issue ?
Are the axle load sensors tired into the abs module ?
2016 Prostar abs/tc/ axle load sensor issues ?

Or is the bad wiring just messing up the instrument cluster and it has nothing to do with the abs module ?

The axle load sensor is completely separate from the load sensor the ABS uses. What abs codes are you getting?

I cleared the codes today and went for a 5 minute drive. I scanned the truck with DLB and got a few intermittent ABS datalink spn 639 codes
they are all datalink codes, so I guess I have harness issues or something. I haven’t check out the ABS datalink backbone splice that is a known failure point in some of these trucks. I’m hoping that’s the issue and not a bad wire somewhere or a bad connector pin.
spn 639 fmi 2 with 28 counts - ABS Drivetrain message timeout
Spn 639 fmi 5 with 1 count - ABS current below normal or open circuit
Spn 639 fmi 9 with 2 counts - J1939 Drivetrain data link lost
Spn 639 fmi 12 with 1 count - ABS Drivetrain message timeout
Spn 2011 fmi 9 with 1 count - loss of datalink from from ABS controller - (Instrument cluster)
my speedometer glitched out once and the abs and TC and yellow triangle light flashed on and off once on the 5 minute drive.Last edited: Mar 14, 2025

I hope it’s nothing to serious

I have checked resistance in the datalink and got 58 ohms with batteries disconnected and voltage of roughly 2.3v and 2.7v on the pins with key on and batteries hooked up
I still need to check resistance on pin C to ground and will also check resistance on pin D to ground.Last edited: Mar 14, 2025

If you have a radar, check the connector to the radar for corrosion. The Terminating resistor is near there too. Check it for corrosion and open up the loop to find where it butt-connected and check those for corrosion.
QUALITYTRUCK Thanks this. -
In my experience with Internationals when there is a datalink problem the Bendix ABS module
is the first module to have a problem. The fault: "Spn 639 fmi 5 with 1 count - ABS current below
normal or open circuit" points to power supply to the ABS module. It might be an idea to check
the connectors on the ABS module for corrosion. The ABS module is located under the right kick
panel ahead of the passenger door.
The rest of the fault codes are datalink related. I suspect the harness is rubbed through
somewhere. Can you post or PM me the last eight of the VIN?
