Works like a charm! Like I said, you don't have to squeeze them down super tight, so although this ruined my elcheapo vice grips, it worked! The pvc pipe would be a whole lot simpler. I never tried it so can't tell which is better. My antenna rode pretty much vertical. I had it leaned forward maybe 10 to 15 degrees when sitting still.

The vise grip deal looks to keep it much more steady so you can keep it vertical but you wanna keep the coil away from the trk if possible..When doin highway speeds and its just normal amount of wind my set up will bend back but nothin huge..Now being out in iowa a few weeks ago in some really high head winds my ant did go maybe 10 deg past vertical but im sure it woulda broke off if not for the waterpipeing i have over the ant..

I’ve used my 2’ section of PVC on both the 7’ Firestik and 5.5’ Francis.

As it doesn’t fit down over stud, will have to modify.

    Winds also lift it.

The 4000’ altitude Panhandle region has been brutal for winds last two weeks.

No mine doesnt go over stud either..To keep in place i just wrapped electrical tape in a cpl.sections of antenna to make it a "TIGHT" fit..
Mine sits on the stud and doesnt go up or down unless i actually have to force it some..
I do it to keep strain off the base and spread it more throughout ant and slow the whipping motion..
Even use some of that sticky tar like tape used for keeping water out of your connections

Good old Co-ax Seal. Great stuff. And never comes off.

These days I use that self-fusing silicone tape as topcoat.
