Yeah. I know. Throwing money around.
I also watched K6s vid on losses. It’ll be more acceptable per below.
So don’t forget that both the pickup and the 35’ all-aluminum travel trailer will be done. The TT will be a base station setup.
Some stuff I’m doing out of curiosity. That includes the analyzer.
It’s a LOT MORE work to get to the power cabling for the three-way refrigerator/freezer (12V/120V/propane) in the Silver Streak. Have to pull it from the enclosure (as I need to replace the furnace below it AND add 50A service to TT main, plus a run to that location) in the near future and would like to have an idea about what to do with the compressor noise. That alone accounts for a fair amount of this.
The base radio will probably be a Yaesu 450td. And it will be mounted in an overhead cabinet within a foot of that big electric icebox. The coax leads will exit the coach thru the reefer roof vent.
At this point I’m thinking about the Tarheel foldover mount. A basic Antron or IMAX to start with.
The process towards HAM is in the future. (The TRC-2 makes for a portable all-in-one rig. A wire antenna setup).
I’m just screwing around while also trying to get a decent radio rig in this Crapcadia.
Once the big truck antenna issues (and common mode plus RF problems) are whittled down, then another radio. The Rebbe and you and Mark have me thinking about the 6666 Anytone. That radio would be a good size for my pickup (probably an NMO Mount antenna). But first it will be in the big truck. The test bed.
Etc.

Gonna have ground plain issue with trl..The tuner will tell you somethin is up or mask issues but your still gonna have to fix the problems to get the best outta your gear..
Didnt realize you were puttin a radio in a travel trl.....Doesnt that take away from the idea of camping or do you go "GLAMPING" as i once saw on housewives of la..lol -
I mentioned both of the other vehicles early in thread.
Yeah. I know you all want me to quit ignoring the antenna and ground plane issues. Honestly, as bad as this truck is, I don’t ever think it will be great.
At this point it comes to a sufficiently strong antenna mount. For an antenna of sufficient length.
And that both can survive 100-mph winds. For hours. My Instant Average fuel burn was in the 2’s. I wasn’t kidding about being exhausted.
A condo with a round smoothbore is a bad set-up. Short wheelbase and the shocks are toast. 4 of 6 identical trucks have all had new Steer tires before 60k. Tractor spec is for doorslammers. Need long wheelbase heavy frame with mid or flat roof.
Money’s no good unless you run 650+ daily x 5-days. Other than the wind problem it’s an incredibly easy job.Last edited: May 1, 2018

Well the goal is to work less and get paid more....
If you have to drive 650 a day 5 days a week just to make a liveing,i would look elsewhere...
As for longer wheel base ect ect for tire wear..Thats hog wash.....
Im not even a stickler for tire wear n such but i usually get 200,000 on steers, factory shocks do such cause they are not much more that a beefed up car shock..Most mechanics assume they are fine if they are not rotten out or leaking but after 60-100 mi they are toast..Poor rebound and damping valveing....
Poor tire choice and poor alignment all plays a role to..In my trk i run 105 psi on all my michelins and she is a cascadia with a wb of roughy 220-230"..Dont know exact length....
Faster you try to go in heavy head winds the more your gonna burn..No sence in fighten it,just gonna make you stop more often to buy more..
Not much to offer on an ant that will survive in 100mph conditions.... -
Jobs easy enough. With the right equipment. That it isn’t makes driving hard and vehicle deterioration fast. (These trucks were all brand new a few months ago).
500-miles out where I run isn’t even a challenge. Set the cruise on 70-mph and rarely change lanes or pass for a half-day or longer. Only some days are more difficult due to weather or routing.
The antenna mount is the thing. A 7’ fiberglass antenna has enough wind load to stress any mount at high cruising speeds.
If there’s a better alternative antenna for these lease trucks I’m all ears.
3200+ miles in about five days. The trucks don’t sit. Another hand jumps in and runs during your 34.Last edited: May 2, 2018

Yeah the mount is an issue..Just got the one from pro comm,a co worker who was out in iowa stopped at walcott cb shop and got it..No bolts or spacers...Useless till i get bolts and some spacers made..Pisses me off..Just might see if i can get one made like the wilson style from the previous model mirror mount..

I gave the one I had to Robert (Clays CB) to use as template.
Am planning to stop and buy another pair where I got the first. If I find them then maybe can be of assistance with yours.
And look at the older Cascadia HD mount from Bells CB. I have the Wilson aluminum and Bobs CB stainless mounts for that model.
Plus, the Rabbi posted pics recently of a more universal model. It’s the bolt spacing that’s the thing. “Old” mounts behind mirror bracket, “new” mounts atop it.Last edited: May 3, 2018

I live in eastern Canada and don't get out tx/iowa/wisconsion much...Which is why I had a fellow trucker grab one for me..
I move into my new trk next week and was excited to have the bracket, now im just bummed till I figure out bolt n spacer deal -
How the heck does the center part come out? I removed the two visible screws, pulled and got the top two clips and the next two clips farther down to come out but can't get past there. Don't want to just pull until I break something.

It does. It's real chrome foil on the plastic, it absolutely reflects, unfortunately.
