Next large step is tools: Analyzer, better DVOM, ARRL Handbook, etc. Now that I have a container in which to safely store them. (Craigsez sent me an autographed photo to mount inside lid; man, inspiration!
Smaller stuff includes further chasing RFI and the like. Experiments that, if not ideal for road tractor, may be beneficial with pickup truck and travel trailer. They need work separate from this (time & $$$ money), but it’s akways fun to daydream some of it while getting down the road.
Never gotten to this point before. Sure have covered the same ground short of it plenty of times. Which I imagine is typical (and maybe discouraging to older hands), so I’d encourage new or old to keep at it. Sure don’t have to go to all the trouble I have.
A padded backpack, a zip carrier and some re-useable ties for binding 7’ antennas would cover most “slip seat” arrangements. Dashtop mount on Velcro.

I played around with just mounting my 955 inside the new crapcadia..Tight fit in the factory hole..
Gotta find a way to route coax outside other than the rubber grommet that in the left side of the floor where your left foot would normally be..
I noticed in the previous model there was a hole in the firewall already but not in this one BUT there is a plate where that hole would be soooo im gonna have to get that off and see..Also dont really wanna dash mount my radio with anything sticky and drillin holes is a no no,sooo i gotta get ta thinkin..
I know i gotta stop puttin off the trk till later cause i really want my radio in there......Being a new home owner got me as busy as a 10 peckered rooster.. -
The door wiring route is easiest.
The rubber tube is very flexible with a lot of stretch.
I ran coax outside of tube. Once I had the correct measured length set on exterior, I cut a sort of V into rubber flange, but didn’t remove material. A flap.
That had enough “give” to accept the Mini-8 with split loom and reinforcement added (as if a grommet).
It buttoned back up closely (but not perfectly).
As to dash-mount, try some strong Velcro in an inconspicuous spot on dash top. After a few days remove it and clean with Goof-Off fluid. That should end that concern. -
Not so much that..The lack of good circulation around the radio and the sun beaming in on a blk case adds more heat and may make solder a lil soft..Then add unwanted eyes..Looks to easy to grab off the dash..

RAM Mounts makes a seat bolt laptop stand. That would likely work for you. At Amazon.

You've made a great deal of progress with that rig, Slowmover. Congratulations!
I know what you mean about the fact that it takes two to tango. I'm often wondering how much better I could communicate if the other fellow's rig were better. Then the thought arrives that maybe it's my rig that's the problem for that other guy. Nobody knows; the eternal question.
In any case, keep us informed about how that new antenna combo works out for you with those 70 watts forward and 1.5 back. It should get way out there, but only if the other driver can return the favor.Slowmover1 Thanks this. -
The current antenna setup X2.

I see a coax and is it wrapped cause it looks like 2 wires down under the mount..Dont reconize that ant mount either...
Whats the blk circle thing around the coax just under the ant? Some sorta ferrite? -
Took out the center shelf that was above the cb..Opened everything up..

That rubber boot tou mention..Couldnt get a pinkin in mine..No way of running a coax with pl259 end on it through..Im guessing that the added plate on the firewall is where i woulda routed my coax(as on other model trk)but the plate is now a cover..If so ill be doin my routeing through that and up behind the plastic cover in front of the door to mirror..
