Think of it this way..If that clays mount is as i think,it should work well and another thing is that there is one less joint in connection points..
As for cost, didnt see you ask when i browsed it the 1st time i would guess $20-$40 per.....I would suggest a hd ant stud to..Mark sell a hd stud but as far as i can see the wilson one looks exactly the same..The top part is same size, same plastic cover for the bolt and the top of that bolt even has same lil indent for coax..YMItrucking Thanks this. -
I'm running a Cobra 29 now with the whip. The farthest convo I've had was 16 miles. I've had a bunch that were 10+ miles. -
I agree with you on the SS mount and fewer connections. I actually have a SS mount here in the truck, but it's a perch (still uses 2 bolts in the mirror) and I didnt want to attach yet another bracket (especially alluminum) to it which is why I haven't used it, so I agree with you on that 100%.
I ordered an HD stud from Mark when I placed the order for the radio, as well as some LMR 240 coax. My plan is, new radio, new mirror mount, new stud, and new coax and use the 102 whip. I also have (2) 7' firestiks with me as back ups. I'm hoping this new setup will be "the ticket". I do appreciate all your help and advice, like I said, I'm still learning and trying to figure all this out on the go and getting good advice is invaluable to me. So thank you. I appreciate it. -
Well im still learning as well..Ya got.the makeings of a nice set up....
Wouldnt hurt to get a few ferrites incase you get a lil electrical noise...Grab a few bonding braided straps and connect door hinge to cab sode of hinge and grab a roll of that cb tar like tape...Ice/slush/snow may build up on the stud/bracket and create a bridge and shoot your swr sky high..Dont forget to set your voltage and swr protect when you get.the radio..Watch marks vid on power wire upgrade to.. -
Thanks for the advice. As of now, I've got all the doors, bracket, cab to frame bonded, and all the outside connections are wrapped in coax wrap, and I'm running an 8 avg wire straight from the battery (fused). I'm gonna have to find/watch Mark's video on setting the voltage and swr protect.
-
What bracket?? Swr/voltage protect is done through stryker software(free from stryker)..radio will need to be powered up and aspecific ysb cable that connects radio to laptop or pc...$12-$15..
-
The antenna mirror bracket. Its bonded to the door, then each door has 4 braided straps to the cab.
Does Mark normally set the swr/voltage protection values? What should I set them at? Oh no, another set of problems for me to figure out. Lol. I DEFINITELY dont want to hurt this radio. -
You can ask mark but he usually leaves most of the setting up to you...
Get the cable(doubt mark sells them but ya never know..Software is simple..5-10 mins and yer all good to go..
How did you bond bracket to door..Bracket is bonded to door via the bolts..Carefully if there is thread lock in the threads....
Dont know if bonding pass door helps or not but cant hurt..I only have 2 straps on my drivers door..Should have more cause it helps..YMItrucking Thanks this. -
Did some basic testing with ant and a cpl vids on power/ coax routeing on my youtube channel..same name as here if you wanna go see for fun and compare..
YMItrucking Thanks this.
