I'd probably go with Volvo. It's a better riding truck than the freightliner

    Cascadia or Columbia?

As a driver I like the fl Cascadia's ride and cab layout better than our Volvos and Columbias.
As for maintenance the engine and tranny is more important than the cab.

They've got that ishift in #### near all their trucks now. I don't know, the interior is descent in the Volvo if that's your style but leather, wood, 13spd just feels better. And freightliners bring back nightmares of a 4 month stint when I started driving with swift... so now I hate freightliners. The one I had didn't give me any issues just guilty by association

Most important question to ask is which dealership close to you will give the best service.
    That decides the brand.

    Which gearbox?
    Manual or automatic?
Automatic means either Volvo or Freightliner with their own engine so no Cummin's.

KW and Peterbilt have no real option when it comes to auto's.

Then you ask yourself big block or small?(13l or bigger)

Unless you run heavy (80 000lbs and more) i would advise a 13l as they will have less emmissions issues.

    Hope this helps

Volvo hands down, I was a auto hater but the ishift made me a believer, if in market for auto the ishift and the m-drive from Mack are the only 2 options that don't suck. freightliner auto is a pos just like the rest of the crapcadia.. and the d13 Volvo is by far superior than the dd.. Detroit ain't what it used to be.

    They don't have reliable engines;
Cummins has issues, oil consumption some need in-frame at 200-300k miles; and i didn't hear anything good about Packard.
DD15 seems to be ok, from what i hear.
I have 1,833,000 miles on my Volvo 780/2008 with D13 motor, no inframe yet. I'll buy the new VNL, coming up in few months, ; i don't really like the updates, but i don't see a better choice.
btw op, I would wait for 2018

I'd never recommend a paccar engine but the isx has treated me good. If you need an in frame before 300k you've got a major problem but at 2.5 yrs that motor should still have warranty covering something like that. The dd15 is okay, nothing to right home about. And what you just typed was the first good thing I've ever heard about Volvos motors.
