I'm in the market to buy a new truck does anyone have experienced with the new Cummins x15? If so have they been reliable? Fuel mileage?

There is a good thread on these. Just use the search box at the top of the forum. I have 60,000 miles on my 2018 388 with the 565/2050 and its been flawless.

From what I hear the Cummins side has been pretty good. They kind of fixed the exploding fuel pump issue, they still explode, but have installed a separate oiler system so that when they do fail, they no longer destroy the block.

Exploding fuel pumps? I never own a Cummins just Detroit's so I'm not familiar with them. Is the exploding fuel pumps common if so what you lose power when that happens?

With my 2018 389 I been getting 5.8 with a van trailer, trucks a flat top. Switching to a rgn this week. Might get better or worse depending on weight.

That is lousy, what are you pulling? And how fast are you driving? What gearing?

Yes, the fuel pumps are good for roughly 200,000 to 400,000 miles. The rebuild, at least in my book, should be at least every 18 months. At least on the X15 they have fixed the issue of taking out the block with oil pump shrapnel, but it is the same failing Bosch pump. On the Cummins CM-2250 and CM-2350, they are well known for this engineering problem. The X-15 has the pump isolated from the main oiling system.

You need to get that motor fixed. You should be getting over 7 mpg. Unless you drive pedal to the metal and could care less about the bottom line.
