No real weight saving between a 13/18, believe the 18 just has a heavier duty bearing on the back box

Jesus. Like I posted earlier someone I know sent me their cat scale at 300WB 86 sleeper. They showed with fuel 11580 steer weight, 16300 on his drives with an empty 48 spread on his tail. Now I’m gonna run a regular 53 footer so I’ll have a little more on my ### end, do you think I’ll have TOO many issues with my empty weight or the occasional hiccup where I may need to take stuff off my truck or run half fuel?

Yeah the rep said the same. Pretty much can drop 500 pounds stepping down to a 72 sleeper, and not too sure on weight difference between 280 and 285, I’ll let you know Monday.

Frame rail doesn’t weigh much, to save real weight you need to find out how much over about 270 or so you can go before it adds a crossmember. It used to be over 272 added a crossmember with a hanger bearing, but I’m not sure if it’s still that way or not. If the crossmembers and hanger bearings are all the same you’ll drop maybe 70 pounds going 5” shorter.

It’s your truck and I think you should get what you want, just be aware that some of what you want comes with a weight penalty.

I think I won’t go below 280 to be honest and deal with the consequences. Maybe consider dropping the sleeper to 72 inch but that’s about a 500 pound drop, and maybe configure the tanks a certain way.

If I were in your shoes I would order exactly what I wanted. I was only throwing out ideas because you asked. But if you want the big bunk then get it. Keep the tanks how you have them so it all looks proportional, just turn the right tank off and run the driver side tank. You probably wouldn’t be able to run around with full tanks anyway.

What front axle are you ordering it with, 18500?

From where i stand, a 13 is plenty for resale value. An 18 is extra gears for very specific applications.

Just my opinion, but people like me do exist
