There have been a few recalls on custom alloy wheels over the years 15”-20” sizes. A couple different manufacturers for this same thing. The biggest difference is the make 100’s of car and light truck wheels to every 1 heavy truck wheel so recall priority is much higher.

These trucks are used for linehaul edmonton to ft mcmurray. It's definitely not from hitting anything.

It's a faulty rim. Not sure of the manufacturer, this just started showing up in the fleet in the last week or so.

    Crazy

The same thing is happening on our trucks in Pa. Its just just happening on our newer trucks. Not sure of the manufacturer but was told they are recalling and replacing all from that lot of wheels.

I looked at work last night, Alcola rims.

I'm in a 2020 volvo with 470,000km (292,000 miles)on it with no issues, seems to be the 2024 trucks we have.

    Obviously a faulty production run.

Volvo isn’t the only one having issues.
DTNA is recalling Western Star and Freightliner models with Alcoa steer wheels as well,so these are not isolated incidents.
Looks like Alcoa farmed out some of the work to Mexico!
As someone stated, check the production and date codes on those wheels!

I looked at some 2025 units this morning. Some of the Alcoa rims the inner beads are now thin like the steel rims. The inner bead always use to be thicker just the same as the outer beads. The aluminum wheels always had more meat there.

Intentional or not. Looks like they will be an issue.

If anybody was around in the tire biz and dealt with or owned a Gm 2500 or 3500 pickup that came with the lightweight Alcoa built wheels in the early 2000’s may have experienced this. To save weight or new school engineers needed to prove some new forging process the Bead flanges were made real thin and over time stress cracks would form and the alloy would just flake off as they call it. Over the years I've seen lots of those bent to out of round heck to.

The biggest issue might turn out to be when a LRH 16 ply is used and run with higher psi.

I think maybe they are cutting meat off them to save weight on highway trucks. I checked a heavy truck and they look like the old ones.
