Thanks for the info I'm working on getting things together for all the info I can get and parts and going to dive back in to it in a few weeks hopefully when the rains start again right now it's make money while the sun is shining. Definitely putting a cooler on and a larger reservoir, looking in to a new high volume pump this week, swapped drag link horns from passenger side to driver side and same with other then put a new drag link on off a western star, as its ujustable and shorter still fighting the bump steer but I'm going to turn the block around to lessen the angle of the caster hopefully it will help, if I can't get everything straightened out then I'll get rid of the Cyilinder and go to a duel box set up. And Yes I'm out of the panhandle of Idaho.

What did you do to fix the problem? I have triaxle dump with single steerbox and need more steering help.

I found a friend had a truck out back of his yard that he never told me about and it had everything done to it factory that I was trying to do to mine so I used his serial number to get the right steering box that was plumbed for steering assist and copied off the other truck for correct plumbing of the lines and finished it off by taking a shim out of the spring pack to get the angle of the draglink close enough to live with. I believe it was a vicers box and pump for 16k front axle set up.

Back before R.H. Sheppard was bought out by Bendix they were the heavy steer axle go to box. White Motor co. products were the biggest user of them. In the late 60’s early ‘70’s when both Ross/TRW and Gemmer were just adding air or hydro helper cylinders to the center link on manual boxes Sheppard was an actual hydro power box. Weighed 130 lbs dry and used a big Vickers pump either belt driven or accessory gear driven with 2 1/2 gallon reservoir and #16 aeroquip/stratoflex hoses.
On the fancy Petes the reservoir would sit outside next to the LuberFiner and look like twins.

Not sure where you're located but the suspension shops here check and will bend your front beam, when/if necessary, to correct geometry. McVeigh Truck Spring in Mio, MI is the most honest shop I've ever dealt with for something like this.

Just read this post. I have a 1996 peterbilt 379 tandem rollback. 20k steer with steering assist from factory. Rebuilding the whole front end at the moment. Learning about pump and cylinder assist. It's definitely different. I want to fix a leak on the cylinder and get new rod ends. Though it looks like you cannot replace the ends! Also I have a hard time coming out of switchbacks if I don't keep the rpms up. Which means slow down and grab a lower gear. Thought it was my pump was bad, checked out flow rate at

Hey guys. I too is doing a 20k conversion to my tri axle dump. Currently have a 12k with a single box. I have everything I need but I’m having a hard time finding out info on how to add a slave gear box. I have a M100 looks like it might have a plug for a third line but I’m not sure. Do I need to upgrade the master in order to add a slave?

    Oxbow Thanks this.
