Agreed, that yellow hose is a charging hose, not a service hose.
Those black flexible hoses look great and could probably be unmodified and hidden between the interior back wall and the outside wall. My truck, at lease, has quuite a gap there.
I talked to 2 hvac guys about modifying the length of the hard lines on a precharged unit and both said it would not be enough volume change to matter.
So far they were right. I used about 2' of the 16' coil mine came with and cut the rest off.

Awesome info! Gonna order the rubber lines cause I’m gonna have to mount the compressor part on my headache rack. The rack is connected to the frame, so there’s gonna be some vibration/flex there.
TheLoadOut Thanks this. -
Finally getting some hot muggy nights to test this thing. I got off the road early yesterday and ran it from about 6 pm to 7 am this morning, pulled between 10 and 40 amps depending on compressor cycle. Took my batteries down to 70%.
Magoo1968, Siinman and TheLoadOut Thank this. -
I love what you've done! That's awesome. Your truck, your way.
Nice work!86scotty Thanks this. -
Top notch, love the cabinet.
Tearing out my factory cabinets and doing custom ones has been on my todo list now for many years.
I hear the compressors on those household mini splits go out very quickly if you forget to turn it off and start driving, they are not hardened against vibration.86scotty Thanks this. -
I've heard the same but there are also people who have been running mini splits for awhile now without trouble.
To be clear, I never run it while driving. But if I did and it could damage the compressor, why would it matter if you were driving or not?
I've wondered about this for awhile.
Fridge compressors do fine running while rattling down the road for years. -

I went with a Westinghouse igen 2550 generator, a 5k window unit, and a 10” fan. I made a 5 gal extended run tank for it, so it’ll do 50+ hours. First week I ran the generator for 68 hours. Gas cost was $24. Diesel cost would have been over $230. Total cost for my build was under $600. I’m now a firm believer that this will work, I’ll be putting in a mini split next year.
The window unit is only 35lbs, and I’ve got it down to less than 5 min from preparing the generator to getting the window unit up.
