You CAN...but WHY? If your axle is only rated to 12K, you aren't going to be able to put more weight up there legally...but you WILL be paying more for the tires AND paying more FET on those tires. You'll likely pay again through slightly worse fuel mileage, too. If your steer axle was rated enough to utilize the weight rating of the wider tire, I'd say go for it. With that 12K axle, though, you're just throwing money away.

I understand the cost and fuel mileage aspect and neither are a worry but I’m working in North Dakota in the oilfeild where 90% of my driving is done on poorly managed gravel roads at 30mph and under. I’m just trying to get a slightly smoother ride and a bit of a wider stance. I’m not trying to go with a 425 at all just a 315. They are not that much wider than standard tire and and the wheel is only an inch wider. I was just making sure I’m not gonna cause unnecessary damage or have any issue before I purchased. I appreciate your response!

It should work- we put 315s on manure spreader trucks out here. Make sure that the clamps on your steer axle brake chambers will clear. Pinch bolts top and bottom if that makes sense. I’ve seen the clamps cut a nice groove in the inner sidewall when somebody (ahem) was in a hurry to put tires on and didn’t look it over. Total bummer

I will be sure to check all clearances lol! I appreciate the advice!

I should be good honestly! This t800 kinda has a wide stance anyways and PLENTY of room in the fender well. I was more concerned about the wear and tear aspect because as stated it is just a 12,000# steer axle. I’m just gonna try it either way! If it doesn’t work I’ll set them aside for my next truck I’ll have in spring and I’ll buy one spec’d out a bit more for heavy haul.
