I do mine over the internet. Going into an IRS office gives me the chills.

Even if I don't have to wait in line there is still that 40 mile drive each way.( on a week day when I am normally trying to work) Plus by the time I buy a money order..... Doing it over the internet and paying the $10 makes much more economical since for me. My time alone is worth more than $10 for the 2 hour (at a minimal) turnaround. Our IRS office handles way more than 2290's and there seems to be a line no matter when or what time of month you go. To each his own but I can set at home sipping on a cold beer and do it in a matter of 10 minutes...No brainer for me.....And I don't need to go see some govm't worker with an I don't give a crap attitude taking their sweet ### time.

i JUST went 3 weeks ago, walked in ,was there ALL of 20 min,bc it's just a 2290 so she said no waiting.
i filled out my ppwk, handed her a check and Wa La,I was a gone pecan!:biggrin_25521:

Why are y'all having such a hard time? I've been doing it for years this way. Well a few years back I had a full time bookkeeper and once in awhile if I knew I was going to be gone too long, she'd do it for me but other than that, that's the way I've always done it.

Not all of us have an IRS office around the corner from our house.

The closest one for me in over an hour away.

As luck would have it though, next week I also have to go to that same town for a VA appt to have my hearing aids checked out.

But I guess that is something foreign to you now isn't it.

Why do you use money orders? Don't you have business checks? That's seems like alot of trouble getting money orders. :biggrin_25520:

Last time I went forgot checks, had cash and check card neither of which they would take. Still 40 miles each way to a part of town I very rarely visit, so even if I were in for only 20 min looking at 2 -2.5 hour turnaround. Like I said my time is worth more than the $10 it cost to do it online. Fuel for my pick-up at 18 miles to the gallon would also cost more than the $10. Just does not make good sense to me to go to the IRS office for free when I can spend $10 and save $20 plus a couple of hours..... To each his own though, you are happy doing it your way and I am happy to pay the $10.

No that makes perfect sense if you live that far away. I'd just be worried some 3rd party would screw it up and I'd somehow be driving around without it,or better yet a counterfeit one.
Have you always done it that way,and no problems? If so,geez for $10.00 that'd save me even in my town due to traffic, and I'm with you on MY FREE TIME. I tell people all the time,My time is valuable " so lets get going. I even told my doctor that bc he strolled in an hour later than my appt, and I asked him did he think his time was any more valuable than mine.lol ( I'm not shy,and not a fan of wasting precious time) So I may look into that tooooooooooooo :biggrin_2559:
