What is the kingpin setting on your trailer?

24" for the flatbed and I think 18 for the step. I would still have clearance for 36" but my tarps couldn't be striped to the face of the headache rack.

most flats i see have a 30'' pin setting.

you can have any wheelbase you want, short or long. longer than average or shorter than average will require creativity in terms of maneuvering or stowing gear.

    MPH2 Thanks this.

I have seen a few with short wheelbases and 30-36 inch kingpin get the corner of the trailer into the headache rack. If the exhaust moves the headache rack back even more then you have less room also. With a short wheelbase truck I would look for an 18 or 24 inch kingpin setting. I have two flats 1 with a 30" setting and 1 with a 24" setting. I have no issues but I also have a 270" wheelbase. I do like being able to hang off the front of the trailer and not have to worry how far up a wide load is sitting. Just something to think about and especially if it's a short wheelbase truck.

I have a 09 columbia. Since it is a dpf equipped truck the stack was just a straight pipe but it had the same bracket that the pre dpf trucks has to hold the muffler. I gained 10 inches or so removing the stack and brackets. I have about 10 inches of clearance with a 36" dry box in with the corner of the trailer
Pointing to the center of the headache rack. No I don't have too much room for over hang. My next truck will tho. I had to work with what I have. If my numb brain would of thought that I really wanted to throw chains instead of swinging doors my choice of truck would have been different. Lol hindsight is 20/20.
