Best advice to add, carry a NYC map when going into the NE. Has truck routes and such. I'll check Google maps for traffic first then bounce around side streets. But all this is great info for anyone going north.

Well my apologies: I was probably typing at the same.

at the time you responded, you'd be fine to run down across the GW

I-80, I-287, us206, I-95, DE-1, first exit over the bridge get on US13, DE-896, US301, US50, I-95 and you didn't pay a single toll to get to VA. You do encounter possible nasty traffic down 206 through Princeton, then Philly traffic, but if you hate tolls, there's your route. I used to go down 206 almost every day in the early 2000's as that was where my backhaul to PA came from.
I95 is the only free legal way out of NJ that I know of. You used to be able to take 17 north into NY, but I heard that is a truck restricted route now, keeping you on the thruway.

    Big_D409 Thanks this.

17 isn't truck restricted per se, there's a low bridge (I clear it so idk that it's really as low as claimed) but that would slow you down finding out you can't clear it. All the side roads coming off it bring you to places that are tight and hilly and no bueno.

    Thanks Logan76, i figure I got nothing on Ol'hand

I used to run up from Mahwah to Wakefern in Middletown NY all up 17 with a box so, no the bridge isn't too low;) I just heard that section between NJ and the thruway exit was off limits now. Obviously could be wrong, but these days I'd just run the thruway anyway as I'm lazy. I don't think there are many that can hang with olhand

Well survived. Left early enough out of Connecticut that south wasn't bad but north was all messed up. Looked like an accident that every 20 miles going north. Nice back up on that side. Currently in Breezewood heading to Chicago which happier about then going near new york.
