The Cat-Holset conversion is needed for settings over power level 4 with the cats so you don't scatter your Oem air research turbo. Sure the Holset can handle your foot on the floor at power level 7 all day long but your engine can't. Pyrometer temperature isn't everything. It just the only thing we can monitor as a dangerous situation
Power level 7 is for sled pullers, that's why the red warning strobe turns on. Your throttle should never touch the floor when that lights on. Even still we don't recommend anything above 3.
The Powerbox DOES NOT change timing so any theories about the Powerbox messing up timing are garbage.
The Powerbox cannot wash your cylinder walls with fuel. We have guys making over 2000 Horsepower lifting their steer axles off the ground with triple stacked Powerboxes that don't have that problem.
The Powerbox does not change the ECM signal at idle. Its like its on Power level 0 so any rough idling you have is not because of the Powerbox
The Powerbox is not designed to work with any other modification to your engines electrical system. A sensor lying about fuel or air temperature will cause your ECM to feed the Powerbox with a bad signal.
Most of the problems our customers have is from stuff like this.
One of our primary goals was and still is to give the driver power and the ability to instantly return his engine to bone stock on the fly whenever he wants without changing parts.

Freddy the box does ####### the timing to stay safe, thats why it creates that much heat. David Blankenship blew his engine on the dyno with it without getting the temps past 1200*, it scored his liners from way to much fuel.
-
Sure, you can put in marine injectors and bolt up a big turbo. This very thing was what we based our business on since the 70's with Cummins. It works and its time tested and true. A hot ECM can also be the answer and sometimes it's the only answer.
-
I just checked our customer records database for
David Blankenship
are you sure thats the way his name is spelled? -
Are you sure he didn't have one of our prototypes?
-
Not sure how exactly he spells it, not sure what he had, Hes on the other site with the name of 84coe if you wanna ask him. Its a 87 FLC shaker with a 3406E in it, he blew up a stock engine with it. He still has the box and made 1128hp with marine injectors, turbo, cam, etc with level 4. 930hp without the box.

Before the Powerbox we sold electronic devices that manipulated timing by fooling the primary and secondary crankshaft sensors but they had problems. The ECM will instantly compensate for any change in injection timing if the crankshaft positioning sensors or ECM is not modified. If his timing was retarded then he had some codes in his ECM or the ECM was getting a modified crankshaft positioning sensor signal. This in turn will retard the signal going to the Powerbox making it seem as if it is the box that is doing the timing change. Even if the box tried to change the timing the ECM would just throw a code and compensate.

Why Why Why do people think pittsburg boxes are so great all they are is a
customised AFM signal interceptor...
the plug to the injector harness is just to run the flashing injector lights WOW
the plug to the EGT sensor is for the FLASH AS temp display WOW
oh and and to shut it down if it gets to hot... fair enough
And the plug to the AFM is so it can intercept and modify boost level signals
so the ecm changes the injector pulse accordingly...
IMO pittsburg boxes are a load of crap
save your money and buy something like an APEXI AFC
they will do the same thing and work on cat cummins and detroit
and cost about 2 grand less -
____________ lol
-
LOL a apexi AFC wont work on something as inteligent as a CAT ecm, that thing is just a fancy ricer light show even comparing to the pittburgh box. Yes it does the same thing but all it does is adjust fuel curves on a gas engine.... It wouldnt work on any of the big diesel at all..... Comapring a 70 pin CAT ecm to some honda rice rocket ecm is like comparing flat head ford V8 to a LS6, CAT ecm being the LS6.
