about 4 years ago the powerbox fuel cutback feature was changed from 1300 to 1000 on all Cat boxes. If you have the old one the thermocouple needs to be in the manifold if you have a new one it needs to be on the cold side of the turbo. The readouts on them were updated as well which may explain your issue

How much cooler is your powerbox then the OEM?

the difference between my pre turbo and post turbo is roughly 250deg. I purchased my box in Dec 07 so it should have the 1000 deg temp cut back but I can easily get 1400 pre turbo which is about 1150 post turbo. Im guessing the way I have the boost sensor it must pretty well keep feeding it fuel instead of cutting it back like its suppose to. cuz either way whether its set at 1300 or 1000 the temps on the box still can get over 1400

Mine run's about 15% cooler on the PP box
OEM 1040F= 900F PP box both thermo couplers same distance from turbo cold side.

Another thing you must consider is the length of the signal wire. If the wires are different lengths the voltage drop across the wire will be greater. Also if a section of your signal wire is not electrically shielded you may be getting and additional induced voltage from another nearby unshielded electrical source. The voltage put out by these thermocouples is very small and even the tiniest electromagnetic field can throw these instruments off.

Freddy: couple of question's for ya, with the PP box installed does the ECM get the exhaust temp reading from the PP thermocoupler or does it take it from the Oem one?
On a stock cat wastegated turbo (don't know who makes them I think maybe Garrett) when you pinch off the gate line, is it hard on the turbo? It must make it spin alot faster to be getting the extra boost? I have been getting conflicting opinions on this. Just intrested on your take of it.

surprisingly the ECM does not monitor the exhaust gas temperature. OEM's don't worry about it because they assume the engine will never see the amount of fuel that it does when the injection system is modified.
The powerbox can be set up with your oem thermocouple or the one provided with the powerbox. Any thermocouple with a yellow and black wire will work. It won't work with thermocouples with black and white wires.
The turbo will make more rpm and get much hotter. This is harder on the turbo but it's necessary to properly support more horsepower. That's why we like to convert cat turbos to holset turbos

    sleepless nights Thanks this.
