The higher ratio won't squeeze fuel like a low will. But the engine isn't working as hard either.
And if you run the western US like I do, you want those 3.58s cause it's much easier to hill climb.

3.42s or 3.36s would be ok with a 13 or an 18 speed. But with a 10 it's gonna be a slug on the hills.
Although the one wrench I know, has their DDs tricked out somehow to have over 500HP in 10th, all done with the ECM. -
running 22.5LP on 3.42 will run same as 24.5LP on 3.55.
