So when you get that three month card does that mean you are not eligible ever for a two year card even if bp is good with no meds?

When you get the 3 month card it means you have 3 months to get on medication and get your BP down. Then once on medication you get a 1 year card. If you lose weight, stop smoking, or anything that will bring your blood pressure down. I would talk to your doctor after proving you lost weight ect ect to reduce your BP dose and continue to get it down until you don't need it anymore. I would assume yes you can get back into a 2 year category but it will take time.

to answer another question. You can not have a 3 month card twice in a row. You may have a 3 month then a 6 to 1 year and then a 3 month again. The 3 month is basically a warning and a way to not put you out of a job immeadiatly. It's so you can still work and do what's necessary to obtain a 1 year and correct whatever is holding you back from the 1 year.

Unless all doctors have access to those reported physicals, I don't see the relevance.

    That's an assumption.

If you blow the bp due to bad habits that tend to elevate it for a short while (smoking, nerves, argument with the wife/boyfriend/whatever, etc), I don't see where it'd be so difficult to get a DOT card from a different doctor afterwards.

    When did that happen?

I asked specifically when I did mine back in April which is still a nightmare for me to go through. I was told no they don't report anything to the state or the FMCSA, that is my responsibility.

When I went through the time for BP meds physical that they give you a fair chance or they did at least me. They tested me three times allowing me to rest.

One physical a couple years earlier I knew wasn't right with extremely high readings. They failed me and sent me back out front to check me out. I complained to the people behind the desk and they agreed to give me one more chance with a different nurse and different cuffs. I passed with flying colors. Those other cuffs were bad or the other was nurse inexperienced. So things can happen.

With the National Registry these doctors have to go through training and take a test. It's all standardized. That last link I posted is for the doctors and what they are suppose to do to get on the registry. They have regular training to keep up with the FMCSA. It's not like before where any quack can do what they think is proper.

Physicals are good in a sense as they are either free or cheap. They are a wake up call and driver's should follow through rather than go through denial. Get fixed and get back out there. The more frequent physicals are for everyone's benefit including the driver. It isn't the best job health wise and eventually all of us need some kind of overhaul.

So you know how to cheat the test.

So glad to hear that you found a way to roll down the highway with the silent killer inside you. Yay America!

'Cause it is way better to cheat a health exam than to man up and quit smoking

    Cry moar.

Blood pressure is the last thing a smoker needs to worry about killing them, and the last thing a doctor really cares about when it comes to smokers.

"This patient suffered cardiac arrest. The cigarette he had after lunch was just one too many." .... uh... no. The steady diet of deep fried bacon with bacon frosting and bacon bits, dipped in bacon sauce did it.

LoL, He is just doing what he can to lower his BP for the test.

The medical peeps do the same thing basically. If your BP is high, they retest, have you rest, retest... all in an attempt to get an acceptable reading.

I have always found they will record your lowest reading, not your highest. -- Are THEY cheating the test?
