Thing is, he paid by check in the mail, and the company he was leased to held back a week. So it's darn near 3 weeks before I get mine. The moment money stopped coming in, wheels on the truck didn't go round n round.

He owns the truck actually. I guess he just doesn't have enough start up to pay for these things himself. Any repairs, insurance, plates, fees were dedicated from his settlement.

You are only 1 check behind and talking about storage fees and whatnot?

Was the insurance for the truck the old man's OR from the company he was leased to? The dispatcher quit, but the company is still in existence. The insurance and DOT authority should be too.

Where were you when you found out about your pay, or lack of pay? At home? You should have instantly made arrangements with the old man to return his property.

I'm going to have to be honest withyou...your story isnt adding up. So I guess I should back out.

He said he is on 1099 so I doubt Labor Dept will lift a finger to help him.And if he is incorporated, in IL he HAS to hire a lawyer if he wants to go to court.

Sounds like at a MINIMUM that truck needs a three axle alignment. BEFORE doing THAT take it to the shop that will do the TAA and have them check the bushings, tie rods, shocks, leaf springs, etc. Get all that squared away before the TAA.

Regarding your unpaid situation, move on from this owner. If because of 1099 you can't get labor board involved, you need to lawyer up. You might consider a lien on the truck, but I don't know if that is possible.

Call him up, text him and send him a registered letter to have him go get the truck, it is his problem after your attempts OR make a deal with him to get the truck for what he owes you.

Outside of that, did you have a contract with him?

Most likely not, no one gets that 1099 need contracts.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.
