Get out and move as often as possible, drivers of Trucks, cabs, long haul buses have a very high rate of death from pulmonary emboli (Blood clots to the lungs).
The clots develop in the legs from non-movement. The clot travels to the lung where it gets caught at the narrowing blood vessls. Therefore; the blocked Blood does not get to the lungs to pick up oxygen. This blood usually flowing directly to the heart doesn't make it. Bye-Bye heart tissue... bye bye driver.

Just wondering, what does that have to do with anything being said in this thread?

. Just information to consider if not wanting to take a 30min. break every 8hrs. ... Take care of yourself out there. I prefer every 4 hrs just for myself. No doubt... money and miles, and time.... gotta get it.........but dying don't sound like much of a way to make a living.Last edited: Jan 14, 2014

A couple questions
1) So, if I put in 4 hrs of 'on duty not driving' then I can only drive 4 hrs before I have to take the 30 minute break? All assuming the 4 hrs 'on duty not driving' starts after the at least 10 hrs break...
2) Does that 4 hrs 'on duty not driving' start my 14 hr clock or does it start after I start driving?
3) If I drive those 4 hrs, go in the sleeper for 2 hrs, then drive for 7 hrs then go in sleeper for 8 hrs, no 30 minute break needed right? -
1) Yes
2) Yes it starts your 14 hours.
3) Yes (You're right). And you'll have more drive time at the end of that 8 hours if you don't want to sit around the full 10.ncmickey Thanks this. -
Thank you!...
So after that 8 hrs in sleeper, I would get back 4 hrs drive time, right? How long can I do that? Meaning, could I drive that 4, take 2 hrs in sleeper, drive 7 hrs, then 8 sleeper...drive 4 more, 2 Hr in sleeper..etc ect or is there a limit to that equation?
Just curious.... -
Actually, I believe you'd have just under 6 hours to drive after your pre-trip. Yes, you can rotate the sleeper berth provision indefinitely, just know your #### on how many hours are rolling back onto you (if you're running e-logs, they'll track it).

Just for the record I am a State of Michigan license CDL instructor. First off your instructor is wrong. Secondly you do not understand the ruling. You don't have to take a 30 minute at 7 1/2 hrs. You can take it as soon as 3 hrs of driving time or as late as 8 hrs driving time. End result is you can not drive more than 8 hrs without taking a 1/2 hr break. The combinations are endless.

Thanks... as I reread that I know that original 14 hrs starts when I'm on duty not driving, so I couldn't drive after the 2 hrs sleeper more than 4 hrs not 7 because of that first 4 hrs on duty starting the clock. I wasn't thinking of all that is the same scenario.... but the 8 hrs sleeper would reset the 14....
Confusing... lol....
My question arrises from this scenario. I am going to be working with a touring dance competition company. I have some on duty not driving time on Sunday around 4 pm till the truck is loaded by 8. I was thinking I could drive 4 hrs after that, take a 2 hrs sleeper, then drive some more, then before rush hr, take the 8 hrs ... but getting up early Monday and driving 11 out of 14 might be easier... lol
