He may be 'cool' but he sure isn't doing your class any favors by not being current with regulations.

Y'all are all wrong. If is 30 min break within 8 hours of coming on duty not just driving. If on duty at 0000 and drive 5 hours than unload on duty for 3 hours you need 30 min break before can drive. Thats way was explained to me. 30 min break within 8 hours of coming on duty. Driving or on duty not driving.

You are kind of wrong also in that you are allowed to show that 1/2 hr break at a shipper/receiver. Kind of splitting hairs. Also to the OP the 1/2 hr break came into effect July 1,2013.

True. I was saying if you went on duty to unload than need to show off duty for 30 min.

Everybody is making this way more difficult than it needs to be.

The 8 hour limit is just like the 14 hour limit.

It starts as soon as soon as you move to ANY "on duty" status and only resets when you take the required time "off duty".

You reset the 14 hour limit when you take at least 10 hours "off duty".

You reset the 8 hour limit when you take at least 30 minutes "off duty."

    That's it.

In both cases, when you've reached the limit, you can't drive until you take the required time off.

There is NO RESTRICTION on how long you can be "on duty, not driving".

There is NO RESTRICTION on when you take the required "off duty" time.

    DannyB and Skydivedavec Thank this.
