NavigatorWife and fargonaz Thank this.

- Drivers who qualify for the 100 air-mile radius and 150 air-mile radius exceptions are not required to take the break.
- In most cases, the 30-minute break rule is only valid if it is logged “off duty” or “sleeper berth”. Off-duty means that you are relieved of all responsibilities and can pursue other activities of your choosing.
- Hazmat drivers also need to take the 30-minute break and log it “off-duty”. But drivers transporting Division 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 explosives must log their 30-minute break as “on-duty”.

Once you drop down to line 3 or 4 the 8 hour clock starts. If you are on line 4 and stay on line 4, you can go past the 8 hour limit without a break. BUT, to go to line 3 you must take a 30 min break, if you are past 8 hours since the last time you were on line 1 or 2 for 30 min.

Rest Breaks
May drive only if 8 hours or less have passed since end of driver’s last off-duty or sleeper berth period of at least 30 minutes. Does not apply to drivers using either of the short-haul exceptions in 395.1(e). [49 CFR 397.5 mandatory “in attendance” time may be included in break if no other duties performed]
Does a truck driver need a 30-minute break every 8 hours of driving?
The 8 hours are consecutive hours, so they include driving and all other time (including any breaks that are less than 30 minutes). The hours of service rules say you have to stop driving CMVs once you reach 8 consecutive hours past the end of your last break of at least 30 consecutive minutes. -
Flag - (If you take more than 15 min then you log it, less flag it)
§395.8 Driver's record of duty status. (Interpretations)
Question 1: How should a change of duty status for a short period of time be shown on the drivers record of duty status?
Guidance: Short periods of time (less than 15 minutes) may be identified by drawing a line from the appropriate on-duty (not driving) or driving line to the remarks section and entering the amount of time, such as 6 minutes, and the geographic location of the duty status change.
Log
Post - should take more than 15 min -

Neither says what you said it says. -
If you doubt what I post, then Google - FMCSA Pre and Post trips logging or variants of..
Since you doubted the first one and questioned Logging and flagging I searched and found the regulation..
so you are doubting that now? -
You stated the rules say a pre-trip is flagged and a post-trip is logged. You still haven't shown that to be the case. -
Sublime Thanks this.
