Don't you know that some O/O make less then if they did the same work as a compagny driver.

Those are pretty dumb O/Os. And don't confuse an O/O with some L/P guy working for some Mega that tells him he is independent.

For the OP. 300k is not an outrageous number for a chem guy. May or may not be a slight fib but working hard I can see it.

The same reason most people start their own business...to call their own shots. Is it more responsibility? Yep! But some folks like doing their own thing their own way. You only have to answer to yourself and your family. It is not for everybody...if it was... everybody would be doing it!

If you are a actual o/o and have your own aut. Dot. Mc. And equipment you dont charge 2.00 a mile. That is middleman Pay. If you do your own work booking direct shippers you can do that. These ppl that say that is outrageous are blind to trucking. Hell a true dry van load is booking at 3 plus. If you think that number the broker or load board is posting your in need of a culture shock. All companies double broker loads. Booking company books and brokers load to brokerage company( same ppl just different corp. Name). Driver uses brokerage company to find loads.
If booking charges shipper $4/mile for 100 miles, broker comp. Gets it at 2.50/mile. Broker puts load on board after admin fees or whatever they want to call it at 1.80/mile. Driver sees it and books it. $180 plus (fsc) is to the truck.

When you cut middle men out you see money. If your happy at that by all means go ahead what suits 1 may not suit the other. Yeah its more money out but thats the cost of doing business. If you worried about what your not making but not willing to do the hard work for it then dont say that your not making enough. You are a product of the environment you put yourself in. Every business is IN BUSINESS TO MAKE MONEY. Otherwise your a volunteer or doing a favor.

I use to volunteer at a non-profit doing taxes for low wage earners.

Just about every single person who was an IC was lucky to make minimum wage, lots didn't. Also, just about every single one of them had no clue they where being taken advantage of and the company was putting all the expenses on them.

All they see is the big amounts of money hitting their account and they think they are rolling in it. They would constantly talk about how happy they where they could deduct their expenses and not have to pay any taxes (except SE taxes). I could imagine the company was telling them how they where lucky they could deduct their expenses and look how much we pay you!!! I would try to go over their situation and explain what was happening and why they didn't have to pay any taxes but they where absolutely positive they where making money. Most people do not understand how they can be receiving money for expenses they have incurred, but have not paid for yet. Eventually it catches up with them. I only had 1 person who ever came back two years in a row.
