Its not a reg. Its a policy most of the main carriers have. I drive for CR England, and I have friends that drive for Prime, Swift, Werner and a few others and all mentioned companies have the same rules to off duty driving, whether youre a IC or company driver.

If the truck is mine, No one is gonna tell me when I can or can't use it.

If you're talking about Fleece Operators...They're just company drivers anyway and have no say so on how the truck is to be used.

Hearsay then is what your saying. Five or six companies do not make up "most of the main carriers".

The way you worded it in your post was that it was in some sort of regulation book.

Driving bobtail when OFF DUTY is just that. No violation. No time limit. You just can't be under dispatch (load) when doing this....
There is nothing wrong when reaching the end of the day or 70hrs, dropping the trailer and bobtailing somewhere..to a hotel or the mall or whatever.
I do agree however that you would need to hit any scales and there always could be the potential for DOT inspection as your still operating a CMV just only as personal use...

What I am trying to figure out is if I take the rig and bobtail home traveling say over a good portion of the USA, am I still subject to the 11/14 hr rules when simply operating as 'personal conveyance' ? - I cant get a solid answer on that one and my question would only apply to true O/O - not L/O (since they usually have to follow company policies..).

    We don't.

That's your personal company rules Batman. There is no federal time restriction.

It's in black and white in your DOT bible. As long as you aren't engaged in interstate commerce, you are allowed to drive the truck without logging. In other words, you can't have a load under you or going after one. A matter of fact if your company allowed it, you could use the truck off duty to move your furniture or say some horses to another farm and you could get away with it legally. Don't forget there are federal rules and company rules, you have to satisfy both.

Save your anti-forum comments to yourself Meltom. You are pretty much saying drivers on here are stupid. Correct the spelling in your signature. :biggrin_25510:
