Let's put it this way.... Don't tell on your self... Log the 34... If you want log the repairs on duty DOT is more likely to ask what you did on duty for 3 hours or so in the middle of a 34 hour period then to ask... Hey did you get any work done on your truck....

You ruined your 34 by DOT standards, but very unlikely to get caught.
How would you get caught, well this isn't the stone ages, trucks shops account with computer's too. Time work order is put in computer is time stamped. Time you pay is time stamped, especially If you paid with a card.
Even back in the time clock and paper days the mechanic would have clocked in and out of that job order.
Technically your 34 should have started after you dropped the truck off for the work order and you should have never moved the truck until the 34 is over; The mechanic should have drove and parked the truck for you.
Will you get caught - no, you would have to kill someone first.
