I would log at least 15 minutes for a pre trip. Even if you don’t actually spend all 15 doing the pti .

If you ever have a problem on the road caused by something you should have noticed doing the pre trip , 5 minutes is not enough time to do a proper pre trip.

34 hour reset favors the company. 24/7/365 operations use 70 in 8 for all drivers.

Some guys in the recap days would usually work 5 days a week.

working 12 hours a day, 5 days a week, you run short the following Monday 6 x 12 = 72 so you can only work 10.
    working 11 hours a day, 5 days a week. You will always have a full day on Monday 6 x 11 = 66 - 11hrs you recap = 55 leaving a full [in those days] 15 ours for Monday

With the reset you can work (5) 14 hour days and hit your 70 at the end of Friday but the two days [actually home by noon on Sat] gives you the reset and you have a full 70 hours to work next week.

Who really benefits from having a bunch of guys always having 70 hours on Monday morning???????

I'm not the person you asked but I'll answer the question as it relates to me.

I get paid by the hour with weekends off. At the beginning of my day, I clock in, log in, go on-duty not driving and begin my pre-trip. From that moment on, for the next 12-16 hours, I'm driving or on-duty not driving. Since the regs changed to allow 30 min breaks while on-duty not driving or yard move, there is no need for me to ever go off duty until I end my shift.

Understood. You and I are in complete different sectors of the industry. I do long haul OTR. Clock Management is crucial on this end of the industry.

When paper logs were allowed. CR England said a driver could operate 9 hours 55 mins per day the rest of their lives and never need a 34. As on the 8th day, day one is no longer counted against the driver. Mind you this info is from 2007. I dont know what is happening with paper logs now.
