Every time I wanna shut down my 3406A with no air pressure in the tanks, I gotta pop the hood and manually pull the fuel shutoff. One of these days I'll replace the cable.

Unless it sits long enough for the racks to seize up, then you're in for some fun.

Yea I know the feeling....lol. I drained all the air tanks and fired it up, turned the key off and took it out of the ignition, kept right on running. When it buit up to about 35 lbs air it started slowing down like it had air in the fuel line, after about 40 lbs it finally stopped, electric over air, good when it works. Use to drive a couple trucks with 270 and 290 cummins with the cable operated compression release, took 2 people to start them in real cold weather when the cable was messed up in the cab.

I didn't always have a second person, so I came up with a technique of standing on the step, pulling the comp release with my fifth wheel hook, and reaching through the open window for the starter button. Wasn't easy, but it worked.:)

How many of today's "professionals" would even know how to? Let alone put that effort in.

Do they even exist? A rare breed for sure if they do! Perhaps congress ought to include them on the endangered species list...but we know that won't happen. Government (in general) and this administration (in particular) doesn't like the whole "self-sufficient" thing or the people having the ability to get things done on their own. Uselessness of the people means more power for the government as those useless people rely upon the government for more and more of their daily needs. Reality is, government wants to eliminate the professional driver...thus the lack of any real training along with all of the mandated "safety" gizmos which allows anyone who can set the cruise and hang onto the wheel to be successful as a permanent amateur rather than acquiring the knowledge and developing the skills to be a true professional.

Sorry, but it's not going to do what you think, for several reasons.Motor oil is a very poor source of fuel because of poor volatility, lubricating oils are designed that way. They have 3 purposes in an internal combustion engine, lubrication, cooling and cleaning. If oil was as dangerous as you think,it wouldn't be in there. When Shell came out with Rotella in the 70's it was revolutionary, because of the additives which prevented oil from being burned. Now all oils have it.With your theory as engines wear out and oil consumption increases, rpm's pick up and power increases??No,they run poorly as rings and valves gum up.If the oil was actually injected and atomized it would burn, but poorly for reasons pointed out.Just squirting oil down an intake on a diesel will do just as I said,it will run poorly, and smoke, not runaway.
Again, show me documented proof of a 4 cycle diesel engine running away on motor oil, exploding, etc. It just doesn't happen.

When the batteries were low on my 69' 335,I'd pull the compression release handle with my left hand, and cross the starter solenoid with a screwdriver in my right hand.Just make sure it's in neutral!

If engines won't run on oil, how do you explain military trucks that can run on used oil for fuel?

Ask any old school mechanic if they've ever pre-filled a fuel filter with ATF. Its been done and the engine starts and runs just fine.

How come a mechanic friend of mine can run his 7.3 Powerstroke off used atf and hydraulic oil without any problems?

Not trying to start a battle or troll anyone here but I'm just weighing in with some of my own observations.
