I have a 1993 Freightliner with a Cat 3406B motor that has been sitting for about 5 months
and I can't get it to turn over after charging the batteries and jump starting.
I hear a loud click but it won't turn over.
Before I pull the starter I wanted to check/replace any solenoids if I can.
Does anybody know where the solenoid is for the starter? Are there any
relays that control the starter?
Thanks
Rick

Have you tried arcing the starter...

Did it sit outside? Could be the Armeture is sticking on the starter

I have a 3406b also. I was told that the battery with the lowest amps is the one setting the bar. If your truck wasnt run for 5 months, its safe to say those batteries are toast. Just because they are charged and appear to put out amps, they are not able to handle the "load". Have them load tested at a auto parts place. Disconnect all batteries and try to jump it that way. Tap on the starter itself a few times with a hammer. May knock something loose that is jamming it from turning over. Keep us posted of your findings please. Oh yea...use The Force.

Hopefully it's just the starter, but might want to bar the motor over just to check.

There is a black relay box behind dash but your problem is starter or battery(s). That clicking noise is verifying the switch is getting juice and powering solenoid. See if anyone you know will let you borrow 2 of their batteries that's all you will need to get it started. If it still clicks have someone try to start while you tapping on solenoid and starter with a hammer. Don't bust it off the housing but give it a good smack.

I haven't tried arcing the starter. Which terminals do I connect with a screwdriver?
I'll get the batteries checked and make sure they are working and then go from there.
Thanks everybody for the replies -
There are 4 batteries. Do all of them contribute to the starter?
The batteries are connected in two's to leads going to the truck. -
ont hit starter
