Service Information System. Cat parts and service portal. At one time you could get customer account to get owners manual and look up parts for free.

Absolutely, don't understand why everyone wants to make a swap hard by putting air to air in a truck that never had it.

Keep it simple. Best way to do it. Or just live with the old A Model. Its got that unique sound you just don't hear anymore.

Wouldn't a 1973 have had a 1693 in the first place? If so, why be sentimental about an "A" model except for that precup Clatterpillar sound?

Stray_Dog, spsauerland and Oxbow Thank this.

The A model was just starting around that time so it is possible, would have been rare.

When I first looked at the truck and pulled back the hood I say on the injection pump it said “for engine model 3406” on the plate. It’s a 7n4369 pump that sets midway on the engine.

Looks like it says "For Direct Injection Engine Model 3406"

Mine says "For Prechamber Engine Model 3406"

Yours might have already been converted. Look at the front and rear of the head for the glow plug wiring. Just a single wire feeding the stud for the front 3 and a single wire feeding the rear 3.

The glow plug pass through studs will be threaded into the front and rear of the head. If memory serves me correctly they're about an inch below where the valve cover sits. Another easy way to tell would be to simply pop off the easiest valve cover and post a picture of the injectors. We could definitely confirm if its direct injected or prechambered then.
