3406b-c? build

hey guys i have a 3406b serial 3zj52709 in a 89 379 tri axle dump . I love the truck i just want to build a reliable powerhouse. This truck does not get worked but 1-2 days a week , to pull equipment or haul dirt/gravel. 4.56 gearing 18 speed. I would think this truck should move a mountain, top speed is close to 60 at 1900rpm

i have already swapped turbos for a 177148, new cac/boots/piping, new fuel lines, new fuel pump, adjusted fuel screws and afr but it just doesnt have the power i feel like it should when you hit a hill. Loaded with 20 ton of gravel is really tough.

post turbo pyro reads 750 going up hill loaded , foot to the floor
no smoke except a small puff after shift. slight haze at idle
new turbo got boost up to 28 psi

Im looking for suggestions on pump modifications/parts? i would really this truck to be a power house

Man I have read for 2 months and tried every combo and just can’t get it to pull, so I figured it was time to make a thread. Excited to hear suggestions.

 

Have you thought of bigger injectors?

 

That’s what my thought was but I have the 16.4:1 pistons so would the marine injectors work with that?

 

Ok so I took long to reply because I wanted to ask before I got on here and sounded crazy. I asked my friend the details of what exactly was done when he rebuild his 3406b. So marine injectors were added along with iron pistons which are not marine pistons. I asked what the compression is on his iron pistons and he wasn’t sure. I will ask a mechanic to be sure because those pistons are popular here in south Florida so they’re easy to inquire about. Hope this helps maybe.

 

It does help man . Thanks for the reply , I have talked to 30 people in two days about getting it meter timed and no has the tool . Bummer

 

I’m having the same problem( not low power, but trailing smoke, want to get the timing looked at)with my b model. Can’t find somebody to meter time it.

 

I ended up timing pin timing today and advancing by marking tdc on damper and a mark roughly 7/16” away from it to advance to 17.5 I read ynot say that in one post . Runs about the same so it must have been close lol
