You’ll have to call Pete with the VIN. I was thinking that all the 379 used an electric gauge and all 359 used the tube 1 piece style. Now the thing is they made both in 87 as far as both models. The oil pressure and temp gauge on the 359 were a little bigger, but to put a point to all this rambling I can see 87’s being different from anything.

299082 is the vin on my 91 if that will help you get the electronic style

 

Good point about 87 being the last of the 359 and first of the 379 - that probably explains the different wire/gas set up. Would guess that the sender would also need to be changed, and probably the gauge too?

 

Yes they are all 1 piece and truly mechanical or will work regardless of cab power if they are functional.

 

Installing a new mechanical gauge assy is probably the easiest and most cost effective choice. They can be had at most every local auto parts store. Repairing back to factory electrical sender and gauge will surely be more challenging and costly. Pete parts always has issues looking up senders anyhow. Gauge vs hot water light, some had both senders.

 

My two B models have three senders. I believe the two in front are temp gauge (single pole) fan (double pole), and the one in the middle right side goes to the high temp warning light (single pole) or, if it had a Kysor shut down double pole.

I have had Pete give me the wrong sender according to VIN as you say.

 

Stewart Warner has some really good looking gauges that fit the factory holes. Our local parts store keeps some in stock. As @Goodysnap said that’s the easiest solution
